DJing, for them, is like freestyle cooking: no rules, no recipes — just a knack for blending sounds spontaneously into something unexpectedly delicious, yet deeply intentional. In other words, they control mayhem meticulously.

Their take on FADA2EYAT is a testament for that, serving an unmistakable narrative of tension and release. There are moments that give ritualistic space function, and others that feel like graceful downspirals into a black hole. 

Expect deep bass, poetic rhythms, and intense hypnosis as one of my favorites steps up.

"Mike Servito is an artist intertwined with his Detroit origins. No matter how far he travels and how long he lives elsewhere, the essential imprint of this city remains in everything he does.

If you asked where this mix was recorded, I would say "Detroit" without hesitation and if I thought about it for a bit, I would guess that it was most likely one of Mike's legendary closing sets at No Way Back at Tangent Gallery. The level of care and reverence that go into these sets is very evident in this mix from start to finish. The track selection moves effortlessly from past to future playing with darkness and light, depth and joy, tension and release. We closed out the final liquid love as the sun set on a rooftop in Bushwick. It was a farewell to our friends Adi & Aileen who organized the party and were about to move to California.

“NWB, being more than just the sum of its parts, always reflects my current life state(or lack of) and this year was no different. My friend Zach reminded me of this ultra-special cut by Arthur Russell: “In the Light of the Miracle.” It’s one of those holy grails and this mix (by Danny Krivit & Tony Smith) only existed as unreleased Talking’ Loud promo until a Soul Jazz comp finally issued it properly in 2005. I used to run it occasionally some 20 years ago, but hearing it again left me shook and set the stage for my entire set. And the rest of my life. My partner Ellen and I learned we were pregnant that same weekend.

Completely overwhelmed, I felt like I just wanted to share music for folks like I do in my own living room. Not really as a mix, but an intimate family affair. In the wee hours of the morning when I finally decided to share Russell’s opus, Ellen joined me on stage. We embraced and cried as we saw all our friends dancing in a now sunlit room.
