Summarizing the work of musicians is sometimes a difficult task. Pulling credits from stacks of records can be a cumbersome ordeal. Sometimes though, you work with a band that makes summarizing a daunting task. That's the case with Tack.Tack is comprised of six musicians. Of the six musicians, their credits are diverse and varied. Historically, each of their stories offers an individual insight into the music of Tack. Colin Edwards is the unassuming voice of the band. Not only is Edwards' vision to compose music with other consummate professionals, but he is also literally responsible for the vocals of the music. Edwards was the founder of the Los Angeles band Bay of Pigs (as well as one of the greatest known highland bagpipers). It was during the Bay of Pigs-era that Edwards showcased his progressive guitar techniques and broke musical barriers. A dark tone echoes from Edwards though his guitar licks, as well as through his haunting vocals - which have become something of a trademark to Tack.Between Rick Cox and Chas Smith though, you will not find anything to be unassuming. The two have been scoring feature films for many years and their credits read like the greatest Hollywood resume. From soundtracks to film scores, Cox and Smith are responsible for some of
entertainment's greatest blockbusters including (but not limited to): American Beauty [Academy Award Winner - Best Picture, etc.], Erin Brockovich [Academy Award Winner - Best Actress], Road To Perdition [Academy Award Nominee - Best Music, Original Score], the gruesome Saw series [MTV Award Nominee, Saturn Award Nominee, etc.], and so many more. In the time working on film scores and soundtracks, Smith even won an Academy Award in 2002 for technological achievement. Together this duo of string virtuosos has influenced how the world has heard music in film, and now on vinyl, compact disc and mp3. Gary Ferguson, the backbone of Tack, is responsible for keeping time for the band. The strong pulsating beats Ferguson creates are as complex as they come. His percussive intuition has been noticed and utilized by various artists. Revered as a metronomic soul, Ferguson is responsible for keeping beats for such greats as: Stevie Nicks, Etta James, John Hiatt, Cher,
Liberace, and so many more. Add Eric Havrilesky, responsible for the thick bass lines Tack creates, and you have a rhythm section as mobile as kinetic energy itself. Havrilesky's spectrum supersedes his bandmates as he "struggles to superimpose yet another vector on an already chaotic gestalt." Then rounding out the soundscape created under the shroud of Tack is Andy Rehfeldt. Rehfeldt is the effects wizard behind the curtain. Rehfeldt currently composes music for film and television at Endless Noise in Santa Monica, Califo rnia, which allows him to flex his creativity in varied spectrums, with endless listeners.The result of this musical amalgamation is none other than Tack: an assemblage of musicians set forth to sonically change the sound, image and history of music.
