“Have you played at the Guča Trumpet Festival?” they keep asking us everywhere we go. Well, last year we finally did it. Actually, we played each and every night at one of the many makeshift bars set up in ordinary houses and yards during the festival week. This kept us quite busy but we still had more than enough time to listen to various brass bands: you simply cannot avoid them in such a tiny overcrowded village. At any given moment, we could hear at least two Serbian bands playing nearby at the same time. And guess what? One of the most curious things we observed there was the fact that roughly every fourth or fifth track played there was not Serbian, Romany or even hailing from the Balkans at all! These tunes came from somewhere else. They were a diverse mix of well-known hits from across the world.

However, not all foreign hits make their way into a Serbian brass band repertoire. This is reserved for the greatest of the greatest hits, for those which entered the World People’s Music Hall of Fame, those which became the pristine evergreen unspoiled by the music industry of today. We all know these tunes. We’ve known them all our life. These are the melodies which are deeply rooted in their geographic and ethnic origin yet they are so international and global that they are no longer just Russian, Mexican, Jewish, Greek, Peruvian, French, American, Serbian or Egyptian tunes. In fact, they could correspond with similar ease with any kind of worldwide audience anywhere. They make the world music heritage which operates on a metanational level independent of their national lyrics.

Well, this album is our take on those metanational tunes. Performed by the traditional Serbian-style brass, they are set to ShazaLaKazoo’s electronic dance rhythms, basslines and synths. This is our homage to the true music of the people.

Australian-born Polish singer Nadya Golski spent time as a teenager in Papua New Guinea, living with the Gamuga Roglombo tribesmen. Her first release on Monkey is in a Papua New Guinean language with a balkan feel being remixed by Paris-based DJ Click.

Golski divides her time between Australia and Europe and Nadya and she and her musicians have performed at many festivals worldwide including Montreux Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Sziget Festival, WomAdelaide and Woodford Folk Festival.

She has several albums to her name, some of which will be re-released on Monkey in the coming months. 

Woipa Woipa originally featured on her album Mezza Luna but is also included on the recently released compilation Gypsy Fever which celebrates the Eastern European music scene in Australia and New Zealand.

About this edit :
In 1976, a prayer from a prisoner, entitled “Patrona de los Reclusos”, was turned into music by Colombian musicians Enrique “Kike” Bonfante and “Maestro” Julio Estrada “Fruko” with the voice of Joe Arroyo as “The Latin Brothers”. That year, Discos Fuentes, on the day of the Virgen de la Merced, September 24, released the song and it immediately became one of the world's salsa songs. My edit goes with a salsa soul, a cumbia touch and a jazzy downtempo groove, is dedicated to all captives, humans and animals, physical and spiritually captive and  all those who are the most marginalized in society such as refugees, exiles, immigrants or prisoners. The Latin Brothers is a Colombian salsa group originally led by Julio Ernesto Estrada Rincón, known as 'Fruko'. It was created by Antonio Fuentes of the label Discos Fuentes as a response to the rival salsa groups of the day. Original lead singer Piper Pimienta along with Joe Arroyo and Julio Ernesto Estrada Rincón 'Fruko' carried the launch of the group's success in 1974. It was billed as a sister act to Fruko y sus Tesos on the Discos Fuentes label.

Tactical Groove Orbit fait parti de ces artistes passionné et accompli qui impressionne quelque soit le domaine musical sur lequel il se penche. Funky break, Electro-House, Balkan Beat, Hip Hop, Dubstep, Drum n'Bass, musique de film... il a participé à des dizaines de projets musicaux différents allant comme son nom l'indique tourbillonner autour du groove d'un univers musical à l'autre.
Musicien jouant de plusieurs instruments depuis l'enfance, cela fait 10 ans que cet ingénieur son studio et live jongle entre son travail de producteur au quotidien et ses dates de Dj/Live performer. Signé sur plusieurs labels électro internationaux tels que Kick It Recordings (USA), Broken Records (UK) Tactical Groove Orbit se tourne depuis quelques années vers l'Electro-World et la Global Bass  des confins du territoire Balkans aux plages brésiliennes, des pubs irlandais, aux music-clubs de la Nouvelle-Orleans :

Tactical Groove Orbit is one of those passionate and accomplished artists that impresses whatever the musical field on which he leans. Funky breaks, Electro-House, Balkan Beat, Hip Hop, Dubstep, Drum n 'bass, film music ... he has participated in dozens of different musical projects ranging as its name indicates turning around a groove musical universe to another.
Musician playing several instruments since childhood, it has been 10 years since the studio and live sound engineer juggles his daily work as producer and gigs of Dj / Live performer. Signed on several international labels such as electro Kick It Recordings (USA), Broken Records (UK) Tactical Groove Orbit turns in recent years to the Electro-World and Global Bass from confines of the territory Balkans to Brazilian beaches, Irish pubs , the music clubs of New Orleans: Electro-Ska, New Cumbia, Bollywood Grooves, Digital Blue-grass, Balkan Beat, Moombhaton ...
