Reconstruction - Live at SHARE Philly

Inspired by journeys physical and chemical, Tadoma’s 2010 release, Field Notes, presents the listener with a kind of sonic slideshow. Places reveal themselves through a fog of reverb and drones as tracks seamlessly move us from one image to the next. Each piece weaves melodies through sounds the way memory is entwined in our senses. They feel familiar but confounding, leading us to listen deeper and find new places within ourselves.

Tadoma’s performances incorporate live-looping of toy instruments, drum machines and samples to create enveloping lo-fi soundscapes that morph into everything from 70s kraut pastorals to fuzzy idm; drawing comparisons to legends like Popol Vuh and Vangelis as well as contemporary artists Chris Clark, Bibio and Boards of Canada.

finding tapes of lost production by purely digital means:
this is an experiment using ableton live in which i am testing a technique to mimic the sound of a damaged tape with tracking issues.

A year or so ago my friend, John, gave me some acoustic guitar recordings he had on his four track to play around with. I did a few different styles of remixes and this one was my favorite. The title, “Heavy Fog Warning” was John’s making. The samples of fog horns and the ocean are from field recordings I made on two camping trips we went on in the Marin Headlands in 2006 and 2009. Cello clips are from a recording I did of my old roommate, Ben.

What I really like about this track is that somewhere between all of these sounds from friends and travels, these melodies and movements came together really naturally.
