Close to twenty years ago the artist name 'Taevalaotus' was brought to existence by a guy in Estonia - Margus
Sootla. There's no direct translation to English for the word, the closest would probably be to translate it as 'The
Vastness of the Sky'. Margus released the album ‘Ajastud’ in 2003 and was part of the D&B duo Nemos but has
always been making and creating. Following a motorcycle journey around the world across 70 countries Margus
returned to Estonia and continued to make music, joining forces with fellow Estonian Joel Tammik, who’s also
been releasing material for nearly two decades via his own Väli imprint amongst others, Whether dub techno,
ambient or experimental, analogue synthesizers have always been at the core of his productions.
One day the guys decided to bring all the equipment together for a weekend jam, and the material for 'Sfäärid'
EP came together. ‘Kohtumine’ leads and perfectly sets the tone with hypnotic textures atop glitched out
percussion, choppy low-end tones and broken drums before title-track ‘Sfäärid’ shifts focus to fluttering synth
sequences, crunchy electro-tinged drums and airy chord swells.
‘Minek’ follows next, fusing soaring pads with squelchy funk-infused synth licks and heavily swung drums before
the ‘Aural Imbalance Dub’ interpretation of ‘Sfäärid’ rounds out the release, as the name would suggest twisting
the original into something uniquely mind altering and hypnotic.

OHM Series Promo Show Juli 2022

Taevalaotus & Joel Tammik inaugurate Estonian imprint Taevas Records this August with the ‘Sfäärid’ EP, comprised of four ethereal early 2000’s IDM inspired and hardware focused originals from the duo.

'Sfäärid' EP is coming out on August 22 via Taevas Records.

Welcome to a brand new chapter of Deep Electronics. The serie brings you a diversity into the abyss of deep electronic music.

I can finally present your the 400th chapter of the Deep Electronics serie and released in the year that Deep Electronics celebrates it's 10 years anniversay.  For this occassion Octal Industries has created a almost 90 minutes mixtape. I am honoured to have Octal Industries on the channel for this chapter. So enjoy!

About:
Octal Industries Is the solo project of Jónas Thor Gudmundsson. The project was originally founded in 2003 by Jonas and Mike Sickinger, the founder of the Octal label. The Debut release of their collaboration was the Automatik EP on the Transistor Rhythm Output. Couple of years later they joined their friend Deep Chord For a shared 12“ release, which today is quite a valuable gem for dub techno lovers. The three of them joined hands together later that year to create a 3x12“ release under the pseudonym Spectral Network. The release was limited (111 copies) and was considered one of the most interesting 12“ releases that year by many critics. 
After the release of the Spectral Network eps the duo went for hiatus as other projects took over, also as opportunities for musical collaborations became harder as the Atlantic Ocean divides them. Jonas continued working on other projects as Ruxpin–producing numerous releases along the way. In 2011 the duo was asked by the French independent label Entropy Records to do some releases. As Michael was unable to participate, Jonas went on solo and worked on a full-length release, which later became Meeting of the Waves LP. Another remix followed for G.R.I.T.which was hailed by dubtechnoblog.com as the best remix of the year 2012.  In more recent years, Octal Industries has been working on numerous collaborations with artists such as fellow Icelander OHM-and fruits of their work have been released on labels such as Thule Records, Rawax, Luck of Access, All In Records and many more.  Octal Industries also released works independently in 2019 an EP entitled Julia Sets on Kontakt Records, which featured a remix from the Detroit legend Mike Huckaby–and his second full-length album Our Seasons ,which was released on Vertex in December 2019.  In 2023 saw the release of a full-length album with his frequent collaborator OHM. The album is entitled Northwest Passage and was released by Lempuyang in September the same year.  Octal Industries, although being Icelandic in origin, works and resides in Tallinn,Estonia.

Deep Electronics # 400 - Octal Industries

On deck for today’s premiere is an analog trip from Estonian artist, Taevalaotus off of their forthcoming vinyl album titled ‘Ringlus’. Conceptually the release is rooted in field recordings and an ethos of self reliance as stated by the label, ‘wanders along the path of its creator's fantasy, with no Third-party samples used, and the music's fabric woven from original, natural sounds such as analog oscillators, vibrations of bass guitar strings, sonic echoes of nature, and cracking of the ice recorded underwater.’

Phobia evokes a few emotions during its run time as the beginning is pensive, and withdrawn. The melancholic pads, and frenetic drum machine work, add a sense of chaos to the mix. Just as things begin to coalesce, there’s a change of pace and the second half switches to a bubblier atmosphere, gone are the scattered percussion sequences and in their place, bright synths, and comforting melodies.

Phobia, and in turn the rest of the ‘Ringlus’ album will be out both on vinyl and digitally, September 1st.

PREMIERE: Taevalaotus - Phobia [Taevas Records]

Some of my programmed Snippets out of Andromeda analog synthesizer, using all the available 16 analog voices in single shot using the instrument's Mix-Mode - drums, pads, bass etc all sounds etc played just using Andy's keyboard and playing around raw and LIVE with different controls such as ribbon, filter pots etc. Andromeda has a very primitive sequencer built in, but just to show you can do some stuff with a very minimal setup.

NO SAMPLING, computer-free original fully analog sonics out of Alesis Andromeda straight into recorder with just some compression inbetween.
