This Disco Gecko Recordings episode features TOBY MARKS, and a mix of relaxing, uplifting music to float away on. Toby Marks is a recording artist, performer, producer and record label owner, best known for his eclectic global dance and chill-out music. Emerging from 1980’s acid house, he has gone on to record and perform worldwide as Banco de Gaia, fusing house, dub, prog rock, jazz and world music elements. More recently has developed a growing interest in electroacoustic composition and other areas of ambient electronic music. He is particularly interested in immersive sonic environments and the meeting point of deliberate and random composition. He is currently focussing on ambient works drawing on soundscape recordings from man and nature blended with simple but beautiful musical motifs. In performance he incorporates video imagery, generated live where possible, to create a truly engrossing and uplifting experience.

Veteran DJ John Kim's first gigs were at underground warehouse parties in the glory days of the San Francisco rave scene in the early-2000s.  

Owing to his meticulously programmed sets, flawless transitions and intelligent track selection, John quickly earned a reputation as one of the most technically proficient DJ's in the scene.

Over the last 16 years, John’s sound has continued to evolve and mature, but has remained remarkably true to his roots:  the lush, emotive, and symphonic epic house sets pioneered by the likes of Sasha, John Digweed, and Dave Seaman in the mid-to-late 1990's.  John truly believes that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; that a coherent set has a beginning and an end that communicates a story to the listener.  

John currently resides in Chicago.  Some of the venues John has played include Lava Lounge, Zentra, Martini Ranch, the Vision Nightclub Penthouse and the main room.
