He wore his coat like a curtain of doubt
Eyes darting quick, like he might black out
I’d seen this game on a darker beat
Where hunger and guilt always seem to meet

The weight of the street pressed down my chest
And every clue felt half-confessed

The night rolled heavy with the scent of rain
Clues grew thicker than a subway stain
She tasted the lie like a seasoned thief
Pulling out the heart of a quiet grief

Questions piled like smoke in a room
One wrong move could seal your doom
But she kept her gaze, never letting go
Of the single lead this city could know

Her stare was a blade, sharp, straight, and clean
Cutting the fog where the truth had been

The night wore bruises where the lamplight bled
Secrets pressed close to the lips they fed
Every alibi had a hole to fill
And the truth came out when the street went still
