Back in maybe 2007, I got way too mixed up in fighting with some terrible nerd rappers on the internet about whether they should make light of sexual assault or be racist dickheads.  My position was, and remains, that they should not.

One of them was really ticked off though at my intolerance, and actually recorded himself rapping over a sample from Tori Amos's "Me And A Gun."  You may or may not know that that song is a chilling retelling of a time she was actually assaulted in her car after a show.  I don't think it's funny.

So I teamed up with DJ Snyder, the guy who provides amazing scratches for MC Frontalot, and made this song in response.  I hope it made the dude feel bad, but even if it didn't, I hope it said to anyone else who may have heard it that he's a twerp for what he did and I want survivors to get more respect than that.

And nerds who don't like it are creeps.

I have been hooked on this song since 5th grade. At that time, I had a different understanding of this song (a truly mature and magical one), and as I grow up and mastered more advanced English, my interpretation of the song changed and shifted -- but still just as fascinating. This song epitomizes Tori Amos' metaphor-rich lyric-writing skills and music-composing vibrant with dynamics, undulation, rapid and dense juxtapositions of dirty, manic, hardness and baby-like, innocent softness. This dramatic and gripping song about having succumbed to life's irreversibilities, the dark ride to scramble back up, and the resolve (and flickering absence thereof) of one's inner spark, is one of the most passionate covers I have ever sung :)

Celestial Eve is my stage name and I'm currently involved in two band projects: Vocalist for Halun, a death metal band with eastern influences that has been around for years in the underground local scene.  Halun sounds mix vocal growls with angelic soprano laments.  Vocalist for Shadowed Grace, gothic acoustic band that uses mostly piano or guitar accompaniments with the occasional cello/violin/flute for that raw mix of contrasting sounds.  In the meantime, I'm just having fun doing my versions of cover songs.
