Pictures Like This were a Guildford area band formed in ’79 and were active members of the scene centered on the Wooden Bridge, Guildford. The band’s musical direction shifted toward electronic / synth pop with flecks of new wave. Support from John Peel helped this track reached the lower end of the singles chart and the band’s prospects looked good. “Shatter and Silence” is a two-track ambient release by composer Artur Tokhtash, created using OP-1 Field, Soma Roat, and voice.

It is a sonic devotional —
for doves, for love,
for the fragile hope we place in the world,
and what remains when that hope is shattered.

This release weaves together real memory, ritual, and sound poetry, offering both a personal story and a universal message of mourning, movement, and sacred stillness.



TRACK ONE: Through Feathers

“It wasn’t flying.
It was remembering.”

A meditative electroacoustic piece about becoming flight.
Written as a vision:
A dove flies beside the narrator — not ahead, not behind, but with.
Through shimmering textures and subtle rhythm, the track evokes the feeling of flying inward, guided by motion, breath, and memory.

This is ambient music for grieving, for transformation, and for those moments when silence becomes holy.



TRACK TWO: Shatter and Silence

“Sometimes the crack
is the place where the song comes through.”

A story set in Guildford, during March 2025.
Two doves built a nest on a ledge in a public alley.
They trusted the world.
They tried again after loss.

The music is built around that moment:
a broken egg, a ritual, a light that arrived after the silence.

It features throat singing, textural drones, and an atmosphere of mourning transformed into presence.

This is music that remembers.
Music that does not ask for closure — only witness.

I flew.
Not in a dream —
but in the rhythm of my chest,
in the wind that curled behind my ribs,
in the silent music that rose
when the world turned its face away.

A dove rose beside me —
not guiding, not following,
but with me —
like memory,
like breath,
like something older than either.

We didn’t speak.
There were no names.
Only the whisper of feathers
and the sound of wings
cutting through moonlight
like blades of light on still water.

Each beat of the wing
was a sentence I never learned to say.
Each curve in the air
was a thought too true for language.

And I —
I became
a feather among feathers,
a voice that never needed a mouth,
a motion that was the meaning.
I became the space
between the sound and the echo.

It wasn’t flying.
It was remembering.
Remembering what the body always knew,
what the soul never forgot:
that we were meant to move like this —
not toward something,
but as something.

Through feathers.
Through breath.
Through silence made holy by motion.

Let it carry you.
Not forward. Not upward.
But inward —
where the wingbeats begin.

I am Artur Tokhtash, a composer and sound artist.
My music unfolds at the intersection of classical tradition and sonic art: preludes, improvisations, and electroacoustic structures are not genres, but forms of memory and breath.

For me, sound is ritual. Each piece is not merely a composition but a trace of presence, an echo of vanished spaces, a light from places that may no longer exist.
The piano, in my preludes, becomes a vessel — an instrument that carries not only melody but also the silence between notes.

My works do not function as background. They are spaces for listening, inviting the listener into a state where music becomes both signal and transformation.

There was a vibrant music scene in the Woking / GU postcode area from the late 60's to early 90's. We unearth and post tracks from those bands that have faded into obscurity...
