Jody Watley, singer/songwriter/producer/businesswoman and Best New Artist Grammy winner is one of the architects of 21st century pop. From her groundbreaking marriage of rap & R&B (1987’s “Friends,” a collaboration with hip-hop legends Eric B. & Rakim) to her vision-forward marriage of high fashion, street fashion and music in the ‘80s (long before it became the norm), to her fusion of jazz and underground club culture with keen pop instincts, and the ease with which she crossed and still crosses genre, Jody Watley forged the template that is now everybody’s playbook.
 Watley's entire career is about looking forward, drawing inspiration from personal heroes and iconoclasts who were and are always ten steps ahead of the pack.  The Chicago native’s eclectic, hits-filled repertoire – R&B, hip-hop, House, jazz, pop, drum & bass, ambient, spoken-word, disco, soul – spans decades and is built on a positive vision and a strong taste for artistic and aesthetic risk. 

After breaking from the majors and starting her own label Avitone Recordings in 1995, Ms. Watley began collaborating with a Who’s Who of visionary producers and remixers, many of whom were longtime fans and jumped at the chance to work with her: 4 Hero, King Britt, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez & Little Louie Vega, Mark de Clive Lowe, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Ron Trent, Moto Blanco, and Alex Di Ciò. Thanks to her non-stop touring, her global fan base remains as fervent as ever and they’ve made chart and club hits of Ms. Watley’s indie albums – Affection (1995), Flower (1998), The Saturday Night Experience (1999), Midnight Lounge (2001), and The Makeover (2006) – and her 2014 EP Paradise.

For the past five years the ever multi-tasking Jody Watley has focused on both her thriving solo career and the group project “Jody Watley & SRL.” Much like Prince had The Revolution, NPG, and Third Eye Girl (among many other projects and aliases) as extensions or branches of his music and creativity, Jody Watley & SRL allows Watley another outlet for her artistic expression. Known for its “delightfully bizarre” (Vice) spin on indie-dance, French Horn Rebellion (FHR) is a music project that combines dance-punk, French touch, and electro with classic songwriting sensibilities.  It was co-founded by Robert and his brother David Perlick-Molinari in 2007.  Both currently work at David’s production studio in Williamsburg Brooklyn, YouTooCanWoo, and curate a new indie disco and house record label, @toucansounds

In 2007, Robert was a young classical horn player in the Chicago area making beats on his laptop, and throwing house parties.  Finding more joy in electronic/dance music than in the classics, he with the help of his brother David (who had recently produced MGMT’s Time to Pretend EP) created FHR and the duo released their first single together, ‘Up All Night.’

Soon after, Robert booked a 30-show national tour (mostly using Myspace) from Brooklyn to El Paso, playing every DIY electro party along the way.  From the friends they made that year, FHR was invited to play SXSW, sparking interest from the dance scenes of London and Paris to Seoul and Tokyo.  As a poster child of Brooklyn eclecticism, they received steady radio play on BBC’s Radio 1 and event performances with Les Inrocks and Kitsuné Maison.  In two years, the brothers went from playing the punk-venue basement at Lit Lounge in Manhattan, to the basement of the Louvre in Paris for the show of famed fashion legend Jean Charles de Castelbajac.

Over the last 10 years FHR has performed as a DJ as well as a live band across 5 continents, while collaborating on stage and in the studio with some of the most influential music artists of our time including official remixes for Beyoncé, Two Door Cinema Club, Sia, OMD and tours with Of Montreal, Cut Copy, Yelle, Hot Chip, SebastiAn as well as original studio collaborations with St. Lucia, Autograf, Jody Watley, The Knocks and many more. 

They have received praise from some of the world's leading media outlets including The New York Times, Billboard and The Huffington Post.  LA Weekly said, “We wish America had a million bands like this,” while in the UK,The Guardian regarded FHR's music as “killer dance-pop.”

Retro Roland Riso, has over 25 years of club experience behind the decks, with a true passion for all things funky, filled with soul and truly groovy.

As a toddler, he'd spend countless hours enjoying his parents' eclectic record cabinet; listening to artists such as The Beatles, Sergio Mendes, Sly & The Family Stone, The Turtles, Taj Mahal, even The Osmonds and Bay City Rollers.  Little did his folks realize, Roland snagged a few of those gems over the years to add to his impressive collection.  

While fully immersed in listening to music, he began learning piano at 6 years old, which inevitably launched his love to create and produce.

Once considered the "Hardest Working DJ in Philly", Retro Roland was spinning 5-6 residencies on a weekly basis, including a highly regarded internet radio show, "Sounds of The True School".  During his 4 year run, Mr. Riso's guests included Ursula Rucker, The Last Emperor, Rich Medina and Mpozi Tolbert.

He also ran a successful monthly Jazz and Soul Record Show, which was widely popular amongst record collectors, DJ's and producers, including Cash Money, Jazzy Jeff and Quest Love.

Riso also helped engineer Cozmic Cat's legendary Philadelphia party, "Groove Lounge", which brought musicians, vocalists and DJ's a platform to perform in united, rhythmic harmony, which featured a then unknown, Jill Scott.

As an URB Magazine mixtape runner-up, The Soul Provider has shared the bill with incredible performers, including Afrika Bambaataa, Felix Da Housecat, Dubtribe, King Britt, DJ Craze, Vikter Duplaix, house pioneer Robert Owens and the legendary Barbara Tucker.  He recently opened up for Grammy nominated artist, Flo-Rida.

A number of Retro's remixes are in regular rotation on The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show, featured on BBC Radio 6, with funk 45 releases on Matasuna Records.  Plus, Roland hosts a weekly music broadcast, The FunkBro Show, on RadioActiveFM.

Notorious for working the crowd and rocking the dance floor, Riso maximizes every opportunity to drop a funky "Retro Roland Riso" remix, morphing the room into a sweaty, swanky frenzy!
