As Ethan Hunt returns to theaters this week with another impossible mission, we celebrate the release of Dead Reckoning: Part 1 by going back to another repeat collaboration with a director Tom Cruise found great success with: 1990's Days of Thunder, directed by Tony Scott, and starring Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly and Cary Elwes -- the latter of whom is back playing an onscreen foil opposite Tom now 33 years later in the latest Mission. Not just a re-teaming of Top Gun's creative team, the movie often plays like a loose remake of the previous film, just re-skinned within a different industry. But it's also arguably better than the movie it's following as well, with a wild production history that triggered a significant tidal shift behind the scenes in the film industry.

Meanwhile, Hayley's musical tastes continue to drift her further into the past, while J Mo's got theatrical field reports on Asteroid City, The Flash, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. And of course we can't make it out of this episode without talking at length about Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

285 - CON AIR (1997) + FACE/OFF (1997) ft. Jayson Buford

Jubilarerna Coma Cop och Mike Foxtrot firar 10 avsnitt som omaka par. De har hittills stött på krokodiler, skurkar som älskar träsmide, volleybollar och tveksamma sexförbrytare. Men nu ställs podden inför sin hittills största utmaning - THE ROCK (1996).
 
General Francis X. Hummel har tagit 16 VX giftgasmissiler i besittning på en övergiven fängelseö. Han hotar avfyra raketerna mot den amerikanska västkusten om han inte får hundra millar. En avdankad MI6-agent och en labbråtta får i uppdrag att desarmera bomberna och få generalen på knä.
 
Filmen är av många ansedd som både Michael Bays och Jerry Bruckheimers finest hour och 96-06 podcast ger givetvis sin dom i fallet. Varmt välkomna till avsnitt nummer tio. Och varmt välkomna också till The Rock.

The Rock (1996)

Disney hat doch tatsächlich vor 14 Jahren mal eine Videospielverfilmung produziert. Damals nahm man sich die "Prince of Persia"-Marke von Ubisoft und drehte basierend darauf einen Film mit Jake Gyllenhaal als titelgebendem persischen Prinzen. Nun ja, nicht unbedingt die Rolle, in die ein US-Amerikaner mit schwedischen und russischen Wurzeln hineinpasst. Aber es war eben noch eine andere Zeit. Eine, in der auf diesem Film die Hoffnung lag, dass er endlich mal eine Videospielverfilmung sein würde, die nicht totaler Schrott ist. Das Produktionsbudget war hoch, die Starbesetzung vorhanden, die Vorzeichen standen gut. Was dabei herausgekommen ist, hört ihr in dieser Folge.
