More light hearted than recent tunes of mine... This is a project that Gaz Brownie https://soundcloud.com/user-755327533 and I did together a couple years ago. Gaz presented me with vocal ideas & lyrics and a chord outline, and I put the music bed & production together.  We just released it on Spotify as The Bird Thieves band, with a new mix & master. On the morning of 19 May 2023 we lost Andy Rourke, the great bass player from The Smiths. In the aftermath of his passing I started to revisit all of his band's catalogue, and I discovered songs that I had probably overlooked, and that had really cool bass lines (I'm a bass player too). "Barbarism Begins at Home" was one of those that really stood out so I decided to do a cover of it, but I wanted it to be different, so the main funky bass line became an acoustic guitar riff, and I added a new bass line, with more than a nod to Tony Levin's work with King Crimson on songs like Thela Hun Jinjeet, from the album Discipline.

Then I thought that the whole tune could've been rearranged in a Remain in Light/Talking Heads style, with percussions aplenty and traces of Byrne and Eno "My life in the bush of ghosts" too. I called my friend Zubi and asked him to sing the lead part and to play a solo Adrian Belew-style, and he promptly delivered with aplomb throughout. Kudos to that featous guy. Dominique D'Avanzo added her bright and charming backing vocals and soon started to conceive the brilliant video you can see here:

What you're listening - and hopefully grooving to - is both an homage to a great musician and an attempt to give a different light to an already very poignant song.

Although the record was scheduled to be released in 2022, those plans were cut short due to Andy's declining health.  Last year, following his death of pancreatic cancer at the age of 59, Andy urged Kav to go ahead and release the album.  It's a powerful and poignant story.  The record is not only amazing, it also includes guitar performances from Johnny Marr.  This is the first time that Andy and Johnny had played together since The Smiths broke up 37 years ago! Razor Jane is the musical collaboration between Meindert Jansma and Carlo Neve, shrouded in a certain mystique. It is known that they met in Tilburg (Netherlands) in the previous century. A shared love for music eventually led to them recording music together, initially in barns and basements, and later also in garden houses and attics. They managed to resist the loud calls to make this material public for a long time, but in mid-2024, they decided to publish their first productions on SoundCloud. Rumor has it that they are currently at the peak of their creative abilities.

1974: Eric Salazar, aka Phidippus, is conceived then born shortly after.
1984: Plays first instrument, the autoharp.
1985: Joins a break dancing troop.
1986: Dad buys Amiga 1000. 'Sampled' music discovered.
1990: Gets hands on an Ensoniq EPS-16+ sampling workstation and proceeds to make bad music.
1998: CD EP, "Voluptuous", released. After receiving a demo copy, the staff of Peter Gabriel's record label enjoy the CD as they write memos.
1999: Produces remixes for New Vision Recordings and other labels in the UK.
2000: Mercedes, Smirnoff and other companies license Eric's music to promote their products.
2001: Launches New Vision America, a record label. After three singles are released, the label dies a quiet death.
2005: Scores the best selling game, "Belle's Beauty Boutique". What? Its cute.
2008: Releases full length CD, "ES: When I was Emptyhead 1997-2007". The CD goes on to receive airplay in major markets and commendations from the press, including such publications as Knowledge and XLR8R.
2011: Remixes artists such as The B-52s, Summer Channel and Sasha.
2013: Starts producing under the name Phidippus and begins work on the '170' project.
2019: 'When I was Emptyhead 1997-2007' is re-released under the Phidippus moniker and is made available in all major online music outlets.
2019: The Phidippus album '170.1' is released in all major online music outlets.
2020: The album '170.2' is released online
2021: '170.3' and '170.4' albums are released online
2022: http://www.soundcloud.com/phidippus reaches the 400,000 mark in total plays and 11,000 followers
2022: An EP concocted by Phidippus and producer Surreal8Zero is signed to Full Send DnB
2022: The hip hop single 'Starfish featuring Cap'n Fresh' achieves airplay in 30 states.

Meet Sterbus - a warm, enthusiastic soul who just might have been born in the wrong place; and who writes songs which sound as if they definitely belong in a different place. Although they're Italians and makes their home in Rome, their true musical spirit wanders much further westwards – to the rainy Portland of Elliott Smith; the pink-noise/scruff-tinted Glasgow of Teenage Fanclub; the joyful power-pop of Guided by Voices and The New Pornographers, Frank Zappa and Mike Keneally; perhaps the psychedelic Philly of Todd Rundgren; and most certainly the various London and English West Country ground-soils which nurtured (or spat out) King Crimson, XTC and Cardiacs.
