"Now Is" kicks off LYVELIFE with musings on the power of perception; a song all about surrendering to the present moment, realizing it is all we really have.
The long-awaited follow-up to the JHP's debut is here! LYVELIFE sees a new collaborative direction to the instrumental jazz-funk underpinnings of Hartwell's core quintet, featuring a host of special guest vocalists and instrumentalists now in service to a grander vision. Five original songs delve into themes of perception, perspective, spirituality and personal growth - tackling what it might mean to live "LYVE" - and run the gamut of musical influences ranging from jazz, funk, soul, go-go, to hints at pop.

A mix of ambient, electronic, lo-fi, and hip-hop influences combine forces to create just the right musical vibe for opening credits, background music, or the start of the right montage...setting the stage for events to unfold where the only barrier is the depths of one's imagination. Equally suspenseful, hopeful, dreamy, mysterious..punctuated by phat kicks, snares, ascending synth pads and thick electric piano touches.."SceneSetter" drifts and develops at a pace that both soothes and surprises the listener. 
One of the first fruits of my quarantine-induced foray into home-production, now manifesting into a full-blown launch into the world of sync licensing.

Scenesetter (Lo-Fi/Hip-Hop)

"Bright Futures" is an upbeat, feel-good, inspiring track, initially created to fit the prompt of a "medical clown theme" - a background anthem for a kind of Patch Adams character, brightening the days of sick kids in a hospital with a silly performing routine that brings joy, humor, and hope. Short and sweet, the track introduces with marimba and unexpected percussion elements that create an organic feel; builds with warming synths and bells; propels forward with more driving organic percussion elements; and finishes with a strong, bright, and hopeful melody. A great fit for any scene that wishes to convey childlike optimism, wonder, fun, joy, and the lightness of being that comes with hope of brighter futures.

"SnowKisses" is my first foray into the world of synthwave, translating the feeling of bright but blustery winter days into a feel-good, danceable track with vintage, 80's influences. A song prompt for a friend's coaching business, this track got some of its inspiration from the sparkly, crispy snowflakes falling from the sky while i produced this track in February '21. 80's-era vintage synths, a big bouncy synth bass, and a driving, fun-loving beat all characterize this dancey, bright tune made to warm the heart and soul during the chilliest of seasons.

New World Part I (New-Age/Ambient)

"FeelingsScape" is a track of big feelings and wide expanses. A blend of hip-hop drums, lo-fi and ambient influences conjures an expansive landscape, where deep and rich synths layer and fold over one another, while a signature plucked string melody lingers high above a repetitive, emotional piano sequence. This track begins in a dark, thoughtful place but slowly develops into a hopeful climactic build that suggests a shift from a cloudy mental landscape to the sky breaking and a bright, hopeful sun breaking through in the end.

The culmination of a crowdfund campaign on Launchpad via Artistshare starting in Fall of 2019, LYVELIFE sees a new collaborative focus to the instrumental jazz-funk underpinnings of the Julian Hartwell Project, now in service to a greater vision vis a vis thoughtful and finely-tuned songcraft. Gestated through the tumultuous year that was 2020, LYVELIFE is a testament to resiliency and the creative spark.
