Reclaim Your City 123 | Luigi Tozzi (Rome)

Luigi Tozzi is a young italian producer, born and educated in Rome, he was strongly influenced by the roman scene and the artists that gave a crucial contribution to the birth and growth of the “deep techno” sound. Very interested in melting the tribal/hypnotic potential of techno with the atmospheric and emotional side of ambient music he is making his own path in the world of electronics. Luigi released his music trough established labels such as Dynamic Reflection and set a regular cooperation with Hypnus Records, a very promising label from Sweden, where he found a platform to develop his style and inspiration. Recently he got in contact with Dino Sabatini and had the opportunity to join Outis Music, a label which released great artists such as Modern Heads, Brando Lupi and Donato Dozzy among others. Luigi is also working on many different projects, including the preparation of a live set.

French artist based in Bordeaux, Von Grall is an emerging figure of the contemporary deep techno scene. After releasing on a VA for Semantica Records, Planet Rhythm and Annulled Music in 2014, he shared a split Ep with Milton Bradley on Shipwreck sublabel Deep Sound Channel. With upcoming releases on Midgar Records, Semantica and other projects in the pipeline, Von Grall is surely someone to watch.

As @midgar_records transitions from fledgling newcomer into a keenly anticipated name in the techno scene, we approached Jacopo Severitano for a few words about the label and a showcase mix demonstrating the label's overcast aesthetics.

Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono, is born in the first half of 90’s. This duo,placed near the Vesuvio (Naples), explored all the capabilities of analogic synths since the beginnings, developing an its own idea of sound.

The undifferentiated manipulation of sounds extracted from modular and digital synths or objects/environment sound’s recording, leads this original duo to a continuos research of a sonic identity. Retina.it’s music has been released from labels such as Hefty Records (US) , Mousikelab (Italy), Flatmate/Storung (Spain), Glacial Movements (It), Substrato, Konstrukt . 

They have worked with different personalities of music business and visual arts, such as John Hughes, Marco Messina, Claudio Sinatti, Gabriella Cerritelli, Giorgio Li Calzi , Red Sector A. Moreover, the deep live-performing activity has led Retina.it to share important stages of International contest (such as Storung, Sonar)with prestigious artists like Kraftwerk, Matmos, Telefon Tel aviv, T.A.G.C., Rechenzentrum , Oval, Noto, F. Bretschneider, Plaid, Apparat, Biosphere and many more.

Reclaim Your City 237 | Ruhig (Caserta, Italy)

Ruhig, also known as Luigi Cicchella is an italian dj and producer, not new to the techno scene as former partner of Tresor resident Synthek at the guidance of Berlin based imprint NatchRecords, where they both released several eps and the album Unwise (July 2014). Luigi musical background has deep roots in drum and bass, trip hop and ambient, influences that he kept through the years manifesting a really peculiar approach to techno. Ruhig debuts on Midgar Records with Lost In The Instability ep (October 2014), a sophisticated ensemble of deep, crafted cuts, followed by a remixed edition, out few months later, featuring reworks by Edit Select, Luigi Tozzi, Synthek and Wata Igarashi.

Reclaim Your City 258 | Jacopo (Berlin)

Jacopo is an Italian born / Berlin based freelance graphic designer, dj and label manager. Jacopo founded Midgar in 2014, curating not only the A&R side but also the visual aesthetic of each release. The label debuts with a four-track ep from Japanese producer Wata Igarashi, a key player of Tokyo's deep techno scene. Midgar has a wide range of interests spanning from deep, ambient and psychedelic techno and is aimed to bring a new and meaningful sound, loaded with positive energy. The label has since released records from Ruhig, r2π, Ruff Cherry, Von Grall, Shaded Explorer and remix collaborations from the likes of Orphx, Yves De Mey, Nuel and Shawn O'Sullivan.

Changing gears from the last few episodes, next up is one of Italy's finest purveyors, RUHIG. With releases across Midgar, Natch, and most recently a stunning EP on Awry (Wrong Assessment's label), his sound is extremely sublime and surreal. The textures and subleties in Ruhig's productions, as well as throughout his mixes, are as poignant as they are unique and exquisite. Forest Drive West recently released an EP on German record label, Midgar. It was titled "They Live" and was a stellar showcase of the deep, pensive, thoughtful electronics that he has become best known for. Now the label have announced a new remix package which features some hugely talented producers in what is a tastefully  curated affair.
