So many great tracks this week! Opening with the beautiful Sunset Version of Stefan Obermaier's "Sena" and following with some Caribbean influences and the beautiful steelpan on Joshua Moreno's "The Lone Trinidadian" we are off to a great start! 

Onwards with some organic house from Taleman and the mysterious remix of ANUQRAM's "System Change" by Dominican Republic based producer Dulus, such a unique track this one. After that is when it gets into the really progressive groove, with Chris Cargo's remix of Luis Damora "Altered Stars" out on his label If You Wait. Following is the Mike Rish remix of "Human" by Digby & Oliver. Mike Rish never fails to serve up some dark grooves! 

I think it's four Connections in a row now featuring a track by Integral Bread's label Univack, they have been on fire lately. This time it's a track I've slept on for some reason, don't know why though because "Raspberry Porridge" by Digital Mess is a monster track. Brightening up the last half of this weeks mix is "Evolution Revolution" by Björn Fogelberg & John Keding on Argentinian label Hexagonal Music, and Jiminy Hop's remix of Tali Muss & Rasalas "Ozran".

Near the end a track from Indian powerhouse Juicebox Music, "Samasya" from London based producer Cloaked, before closing out with the Anunnakis remix of Paul and NAHS' "Voice On Mars". Thanks for tuning in to another episode of Connections!

Clubsonica Records opens the month of March by unveiling the fifth edition of their Sampler Series. Following its debut in 2021, Clubsonica's Various Artists Sampler Series is now a regular and much anticipated offering in the label's catalog, fitting nicely alongside the MMW and ADE showcases which operate under a similar ethos. The trending series has been a platform not only for a wide assortment of upcoming talent, but continues to add some of progressive music's most notable names with each successive edition. Genre veterans Golan Zocher, Greenage, Kamilo Sanclemente, Ric Niels, Ruben Karapetyan, amongst others, have all graced Clubsonica's much sought after Sampler Series, sitting alongside a carefully curated blend of talented up and comers. Now embarking on their fifth edition, Clubsonica boss Juan Pablo Torrez has compiled the series' most comprehensive volume to date.

The first selection is Erich Von Kollar. Much like many progressive house producers, the Debrecen resident has recently revitalized his career with a string of organic-focused productions via Amulanga and Nordic Voyage. With a well-received release via Ruben Karapetyan's RKP imprint to begin the year, Erich now makes his Clubsonica debut with the smooth hypnotic sounds of ‘Vertical Maze'. 

Selection two finds NAHS alongside Martin Fredes. On the backing of support from genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Argentinean duo have become household names in the global progressive house scene over the last half decade. With a sound that incorporates a perfect balance of melody, groove and rhythm, NAHS and Martin have racked up impressive resumes in the process, with standout releases via Mango Alley, Plattenbank, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden sitting prominently on their respective discographies. 

The collection's third offering is Nic Rinaldi. Hailing from Colombia, Nic Rinaldi first emerged in 2021 with a release via Madloch's Future Avenue. The next two calendar years would see Nic continue to develop his sound, adding projects with 3rd Avenue and MNL to his discography. Also well regarded as a DJ, Nic has been a fixture of his country's nightlife since 2017, sharing the booth with international talents such as Kevin Di Serna, Oliver Koletzki, Quivver and local heroes such as Clubsonica label boss Juan Pablo Torrez. Now continuing to trend on an upwards trajectory, Nic adds Clubsonica to his resume with the rejuvenating energies and trance-inspired melodies of ‘Night Rider'. 

Next up and is Sensy with ‘Masquerade'. The Ibiza resident's impeccable selections and ability to seamlessly program Organic, Progressive, and Melodic House & Techno into his storytelling sets, is what has ultimately set him apart from other local DJs. Renowned venues such as Carpe Diem, City Hall, Pacha, La Terrazza, amongst others, have played host to Sensy's unique amalgamation of sound. As a producer, Sesys is at the beginning of his journey, with a 2023 release on Amber Long's Modern Architect sitting as his lone debut offering. Continuing to work on his production craft, Sensy now opens his 2024 schedule with his Clubsonica debut ‘Masquerade', a track which incorporates the nostalgic sounds of old school progressive house with a timeless vibe throughout. 

The final selection welcomes TAYLAN with ‘Sonoma'. Immediately recognized for his astral sound, TAYLAN would go on a creative swell across the next two calendar years, landing key projects via Beatfreak, Manual Music, Steyoyoke and more, making him a rising talent to watch going forward. Increasingly prolific in the years to follow, TAYLAN's sound caught the attention of long standing imprints such as Movement Recordings and Univack, which further established his elusive sound.

Label Spotlight - Mango Alley (Part 3)

Welcome to the April 2024 episode of ZZGO Radio!

It's been a super busy month as I've been working on a fairly large art project for my Burning Man camp Cosmic Creatures.  As I mentioned last month, it's 6 meter wide geodesic dome sort of structure that will be a little bit like a portable planetarium.  Construction has been moving along quickly along with the help of some fellow Cosmic Creatures in Houston.  This weekend I'm hoping we can get all 84 panels together in one place to do an initial assembly and hope that everything fits!  If everything goes smoothly, we'll have it out at Burning Flipside, a regional Burning Man event in Texas, near the end of May.  Wish us luck!

In other news, the total solar eclipse this month was pretty amazing despite some very cloudy skies.  We got a few peeks both before and during totality that made the trip out of town worth it.  I didn't take any pictures so I could focus on being in the moment and enjoying what I could, but I have some great memories with family and friends so I'll take it.

In the music department this month I have some more great melodic and progressive house for us to enjoy together, so let's get to it.  Thanks for listening and I'll catch you again next month.  Peace.

Underground Colombo (UC) was envisioned by Kushan Dissanayake, and his co-founder, Kasun Dissanayake, who is known as Kais D. This dynamic duo, driven by their shared passion for underground music, embarked on this journey together in 2016.

Inspired by the vibrant energy of Sri Lanka's music scene, they had a vision—to cultivate a close-knit community that immersed itself in the rhythms they cherished. Alongside them was their best friend, Buddika Wijebandara, forming an unbreakable trio.

Their first step was the establishment of a Facebook community, a digital haven for kindred spirits, which rapidly flourished and now boasts a dedicated following of 15,000 strong. But that was only the beginning.

I've been listening to electronic music since I was old enough to tune into the John Peel show on Radio 1. Peel first introduced me to Chicago House, Detroit Electro and Rap. I would listen to an entire show with my finger hovering over the record button of my 'tape-recorder' close to the radio speaker just to record whatever 3 electronic imports he would play each night. I wish I'd kept those recordings.
From the moment I first heard 'Roxanne Shante' I sought out everything I could ranging from Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Kurtis Mantronik, Africa Bambata, Grandmaster Flash, Gorgio Morodor, Axel-F, Jean Michel Jarre and just about anyone who used a synth to make music! With the arrival of House in the mid-late 80's the likes of Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Steve Silk Hurley, Adonis and many more American underground House producers, the music had developed into a new, seriously exciting phenomena.
Music progressed at pace with House and Acid imports driving change, the UK in particular underwent an epiphany of sorts in the 80's and 90's. From Break-Dancing to New Romanticism, the music developed, finally morphing into the early genres of Acid Trance, Techno and Progressive Trance. Heavily influenced by American and underground Dutch and German artists and with the advent of clubbing and non-speaking mixing DJ's, it opened up a Pandora's box of new music, influences, sounds and styles. What that amounted to for me (and most others like me) was an ever-growing range of electronic music that was continually breaking free from pigeon-holes and mainstream pop culture. Electronic music had become the new classical music of a generation.
I can only say that electronic or computer music has evolved beautifully in the past 40 years and I love it as much now as the day I first heard John Peel play fantastic American imports.
I'm not anything more than a bedroom DJ and electronic music enthusiast. I have the greatest admiration for those who DJ publicly and seek to build a following or career from DJing, but that’s not a path I’ve tried to follow. I do love to put together great tunes, so for me using this sort of platform for sharing music is perfect for me. I do mixes both on my decks and using Ableton, as sometimes I find it easier to create a journey through that medium. 
As for making music, I’m slowly finding my way around Ableton in order to bring life to the musical ideas rolling around my head. 
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the mixes I post, please give me some feedback and if nothing else, support the artists themselves and buy their music.

The concept of my podcast showcases tributes to Artists and Labels by exclusively mixing their notable tracks, delivering a specific listening experience. Focus on Organic House and Progressive House.

Friends say I have a bold and assertive approach to mixing, which I believe brings a unique energy and flow to the music. My goal is to create a captivating and seamless blend of music that keeps the listener engaged and excited.

The love for music started just before puberty set in.
There Roy got inspired by rock music.
AC/DC was the first band he really listened to.
This was also his first concert ever.
15 years old and going to see AC/DC in 1996.
Shortly after, Guns n Roses, Metallica, U2, Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers was all he listened to.

A bit later the music got more intense.
He started listening to bands like 
Rage Against the Machine, Sepultura, Machine Head, Pantera, Korn and Limp Bizkit.

In his early 20's he took a more mellow path music wise.
60's music got his interest.
Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, BB King, Bob Dylan, The Doors, The Animals and his biggest hero's where, and still are The Rolling Stones and Dire Straits/ Mark Knopfler.

Then... May 10th 2003. The day history was made in so many ways.
Roy lives right next to Arnhem football stadium 'Gelredome' where a certain DJ 'Tiësto' performed.
His mates all went and asked him along.
He never was into dance music but he was so impressed with the show, the scene, the fans, and his interest in dance music was born right there.

Shortly after he stared to buy Tiësto albums.
In Search of Sunrise 4 was the first dance album he bought and the interest in this music genre kept getting bigger and bigger.
(Ironically, that album remains his favorite album of all times)

The following years a friend told him:
'You will never appreciate the skills of a DJ if you never DJ'ed yourself, because then you will truly know how hard it is and what it is all about'.

With those words in mind he bought a 2nd hand set of turntables and a mixer and i got started.
It took some time before it all went smooth and after a few months he really felt comfortable.
Ever since then he played trance music exclusively but after hearing Dan Southward's radioshow 'Deep Senses Radio' early 2010 his interest in 
progressive house and deep house was awakened.
This made quite some changes in his style but this made Roy more complete as a DJ.
Later on he let other styles like tech-house and even techno slip between his sets just to keep things interesting.

Early 2013 Roy's friend Dan Southward picked up on Roy's progressive house sets.
He heard how much he improved his sound and he asked him to join forces and host his monthly show together.
The name of the show was Deep Senses Radio.
This was a great succes and Roy has been a part of the show ever since.
The style of the show is Deep House, Progressive House, Tech-house, Minimal and Techno.
January 2016 Dan decided to leave Deep Senses Radio and went solo with his own radioshow.
Roy changed the name in Deep Senses and started counting from 001 again.
Ever since, the format of the show is a mix by Roy Malloy in the first hour and a guestmix by a different DJ in the second hour.

Skipping to September 2021 and Roy succesfully made 100 episodes.
This was celebrated with an exclusive 5 hour mix with all of his favorite tracks of the past 8 years.

Roy's broad taste in music is very noticeable in his sets and he is never afraid
of trying out new things or just do his own thing.
The only words that come to mind when describing Roy's sound is divers, different and bold.

In 2015 Dan Southward and Roy Malloy started out their own record label called D&R Digital.

Born in Tandil, Buenos Aires Argentina. Franco entered the world of music from the age of 14, creating sounds and melodies in the EDM style of that time (2014). As time went by he adapted his sound to his most current musical tastes, such as progressive house and melodic techno, crossing genres such as house and tech house.

Bertha not only inspires the people around her with her positive energy and penchant for creativity on the dance floor, but also on the decks. With her feeling for the music and the vibe in the room, the Hamburg native develops an atmosphere of a pleasant get-together and leads those who love dancing into a world of the fantastic. She herself describes her sound geographically: early education in Hamburg, teenage years in MV, garnished with Berlin and Leipzig sprinkles. Bertha plays whatever moves her heart. True to the motto “Gets in your ear. Stays in your head.”
