Holmes began djing in Belfast from the age of 15. His first hit was the song "DeNiro", with Ashley Beedle, in 1992. In the early to mid 1990s he ran two club nights in the Belfast Art College known as Sugar Sweet and Shake Yer Brain. Orbital wrote the track "Belfast", released on their debut album Orbital, after playing at Sugar Sweet.

Holmes released This Film's Crap Let's Slash the Seats, in July 1995.[1] At the time he described the album as being inspired by movies and movie soundtracks, a recurring theme throughout Holmes' work (see Discography). The opening track, "No Man's Land", featured on the soundtrack to the film, Pi. In the same year, he also provided the ambient links between the songs on the album Infernal Love by Therapy?. In 1997, Holmes released Let's Get Killed.[1] Many of the tracks featured Brazilians dancing in the streets of New York, recorded by Holmes using a minidisc. The album's first single, "My Mate Paul," was Holmes' first commercial success.

His 1997 Essential Mix, a mixture of northern soul, psychedelic funk and hip hop was voted mix of the year by Muzik magazine

In 1998, Danny DeVito commissioned him to do the score for Steven Soderbergh's film Out of Sight. He scored a second film for Soderbergh in 2001, including some songs from Let's Get Killed and Bow Down to the Exit Sign on the Ocean's Eleven remake.

After releasing a remix album, Come Get It I Got It, in 2002, Holmes released David Holmes Presents The Free Association in 2003. This was a departure for the artist as all his previous work had been solo. The Free Association featured four other bandmates who toured with Holmes after the album was launched.

As a remixer he has reworked tracks by artists such as U2, Doves, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Page and Plant, Saint Etienne and Ice Cube.

Before beginning his musical career, Holmes worked as a hairdresser and chef. He also briefly owned and ran a café called Mogwai near the Queen's University of Belfast and, since 2009, has run an intimate club in South Belfast called The Menagerie.

In 2008, he composed the music for the "New iPhone" ad campaign. An album, The Holy Pictures, was released on 8 September 2008,[2] from which the track "Holy Pictures" was selected for the soundtrack of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.

In April 2009, he topped the Irish Times' "50 Best Irish Acts Right Now".[3]

His latest release was a best of compilation, The Dogs Are Parading, released on 26 April 2010.

Voodoo Band

Voodoo Band terbentuk di Jakarta pada tanggal 12 Juli 1991 oleh Edo Widiz (paul gilbertnya indonesia ). Kabarnya, band ini dinamakan Voodoo karena semua personilnya saat itu suka dengan hal2 yang berbau mistis dan tentu saja agar nama band ini mudah dikenal & diingat. Pada awalnya, voodoo dihuni oleh 3 personil, yaitu Edo Widiz pada gitar, Doddy Katamsi pada vokal, dan Adman Maliawan pada bass. Kemudian baru Ossa Sungkar bergabung sebagai drummer. Pada Saat pembuatan album demo untuk album pertama Voodoo, Dody (vocal) mengundurkan diri dan bergabung dengan group Elpamas. Dan sebagai penggantinya adalah Oppie. Dengan Formasi Edo (gitar), Awan (bass), Ossa (drum) & Oppie (vocal) pada akhir tahun 1993 Voodoo merilis album perdana yang memiliki dua versi, yaitu "1994 & Dawai Nurani" dengan hitsnya “Katakan & Dawai Nurani”. Pada pertengahan tahun 1994 Awan (bass) mengundurkan diri dan digantikan dengan Atenk. Pada bulan September 1995, Voodoo merilis album ke II dengan title W.O.B (Wis Ojo Bingung) yang disebut sebut sebagai "Most Wanted Album" dan menghasilkan hits “Salam Untuk Dia, Hasrat Jiwa & Abal – Abal". Setelah beberapa saat beredarnya album W.O.B ini, Oppie (vocal) mengundurkan diri dan penggantinya ialah Yoyo Ragil. Pada Bulan Mei 1997, Voodoo merilis album Re-packaging yang bertitle "Selamanya", dimana dalam album ini terdapat double single lagu “Selamanya & Cium”, sisanya adalah lagu dari album sebelumnya yang diaransemen ulang. Pada pertengahan tahun 1999 Voodoo merilis album ke IV yang dibertitel "OYEA (Ossa Yoyok Edo Atenk)” dengan lagu andalan “Hitam Putih & Prahara”. Ditahun 2000, Voodoo mempersembahkan sebuah album yang dikemas dalam “Kumpulan Lagu Terbaik” untuk para pencinta musik tanah air yang merupakan album terakhirnya.

Voodoo dikenal sebagai band rock yang rumit dan punya idealisme tinggi. Bisa dibilang ini band indonesia dengan rasa kelas dunia dan sangat amat pantas satu panggung dengan band sekelas Mr. Big. Dimana pada era saat ini, belum ada satu pun musisi yang mampu membuat band dengan warna musik seperti ini di indonesia.

Di 2009, Voodoo sempat kembali. Kembalinya band Voodoo dirasa sangat pas dengan kondisi saat itu(dan sekarang) dimana band baru banyak bermunculan namun dengan genre yang sama. “Salah satu alasan kembalinya Voodoo, kita ingin meluruskan kembali Rock yang sebenarnya, sehingga band-band lain yang merusak keragaman musik kita ini sadar,” tegas Ossa Sungkar.
Hal ini dimulai dengan single "Bawa Pergi Cintaku" yang menjadi titik balik kembalinya voodoo, namun sayang pangsa pasar musik indonesia tidak berpihak kepada mereka. Dalam single tersebut, Voodoo memperkenalkan vokalis baru mereka yaitu Suley yang karakter suaranya mirip Chris Cornell (vokalis SoundGarden / Audio Slave).

Namun suley hanya bisa mengisi satu single itu saja dan setelah itu keluar dari band ini dan digantikan oleh Reysa. Tidak lama, Reysa keluar, dan yang paling mengejutkan adalah atenk, yang juga ikut keluar dari band ini. Posisi nya pun diisi oleh Novy yang katanya merangkap jadi vocal dan bass. Gonta ganti personil ini kembali membuat voodoo vakum untuk saat ini.

Pertanyaannya adalah, apakah Voodoo masih bisa diterima di pasar yang kini dijejali anak muda yang "kreatif" ? Akankah Voodoo masih mempunyai tempat di hati penggemar musik, Ataukah hanya buat fans lawasnya seperti saya ini ? Semoga voodoo tidak termarjinalkan diantara band band baru indonesia yang tumbuh begitu cepat bagaikan wabah ulat bulu.
