I Ain't Rich

On May 13, 2015, my brother-in-law Eduardo Fortuny Loret de Mola was killed in a road accident, to the great sorrow of all who knew and loved him, in particular his widow and two sons. I wrote this song in the aftemath of his all too soon passing away, but the time never seemed right to try and record it ... until now, when Enna, his wife, read the lyrics and expressed her wish to hear a recorded version. It would also have been his 60th birthday this year. I took both as a sign that it was time, and thanks to the monumental musical and production abilities of Sergio Aguilar, not to mention the wonderful backing vocals of Beto Quintero, here it is.

The song, needless to say, but I will say it, is dedicated to Eduardo, and all who loved him.

Hallelujah is a transliteration of Hebrew: הַלְלוּ (hallū yāh), which means "praise ye Jah!" (from הַלְלוּ‎, "praise ye!" Leo Napier has become a "prominent voice in the electronic funk/soul arena" (Stereofox) since emerging from the New York EDM circuit in 2015.   Leo came on to the scene by contributing several songs to projects by pioneering DJ/producers GRiZ and Gramatik. He captured the attention of Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon, who features alongside Napier on Gramatik’s most successful single to date, “Native Son.” The stellar collaboration was followed by “Native Son (Prequel),” also written and performed by Leo. It went on to become the lead track off Gramatik’s full-length album, Epigram, released in 2016.

It’s been a busy year for Napier, who once again teamed up with GRiZ on the track “Before I Go.” Their previous collaboration “A Fine Way To Die” has garnered millions of streams to date. 

Leo is a musical chameleon. His voice and lyrical tendencies lend themselves to a variety of genres from folk, to hip-hop and Neo-soul.  His versatility and magnetic stage presence captivate audiences wherever he plays.

His upcoming record is in-keeping with recent collaborations within the EDM genre, a mix of classic funk/soul with hard hitting electronic rhythms. The songs are gritty urban tales with a cast of colourful characters peppered with Leo's signature brand of dark humour.
