The divided States of America
It seems like that’s what we’ve become
The lefts and the rights, the blacks and the whites
Just can’t come together as one
Yeah, and Washington’s all in a dither
With meetings and tweetings galore
Some of ‘em wanna ban weapons
And some of ‘em wanna wage war

So what in the world is this country to do?
Well, maybe it’s all up to me and to you

Yes, the U.S. stands for us, every woman, every man
And it stands for the child of the immigrant
Who just might grow up to be president
And we’ll fight for that right, when we know we must

Where were you on September 11?
We’ll be asking that question for years
Like we’ve done for the day we lost JFK
And we all got in touch with our tears
There were thousands who died in the towers
But their spirit survived the attack
And you know, we will too, we’re the red, white, and blue
So let’s bring America back

But how do we bridge that GREAT divide?
Well, somehow together, we’ve got to decide
