(en) French soundsmith Sebastien Bouchet has a well-documented knack for deep, eccentric techno and house – as well as a reputation for keeping his solo releases few and far between. Seeing him return to Kompakt under new monicker SEBASTOPOL is a pretty special treat, then – his last contribution to the Kompakt label family dates back to the year 2014, when he dropped the much-acclaimed Speicher 77 (KOMPAKT EXTRA 77). Naturally, expectations are high, and his latest offering GAHALOWOOD does not disappoint, seamlessly merging Bouchet’s leftfield sensibilities and unlikely riffs with a strong dance floor drive. 

Opener and title track GAHALOWOOD gets things off the launch pad quickly, thanks to its stoic kickdrum and surging synths – but it’s those vocals that really pull you in, evolving from atmospheric swabs of texture to full-blown mumblecore imbued with all the deadpan romanticism of an early 80s New Wave act. B side follow-up FLASH POOL seems equally committed to the human voice, deploying its intimate groove whispering upfront, but takes an unexpected turn into psychedelic cowbell territory where feral bleeps roam the lands and hooklines grow in the weirdest of places. Closing cut HEAVEN presents a comparatively straightforward house arc - while still sniffing out some trippy goodness that’ll leave your thirst of sonic adventure wholly satisfied.

Tru Lyric grew up in Roseland, California. Seeing the violence and gang activity in his area inspired him to work to make a difference in his town. Tru started writing music in 2004, recording parodies of popular songs. He started writing more serious songs in late 2007 and adopted the name Tru Lyric. He met a few classmates also interested in making christian positive music forming the group "Split Mic". They started recording for their first album in early 2009. Half way through the album, the studio they were recording at closed down. The group slowly started to go their separate ways in early 2010 after graduating from high school. Tru Lyric continued writing music and met Aurie Tillis half way through the summer of 2010. Tru Lyric started recording in Aurie's studio and was led to take the next step by creating his first solo album "The Tru Direction". The album released March 10, 2011. Fast forward 7 years, one more album, and two tours later Tru Lyric is now working on his biggest project yet set to release this year titled "Beautiful Imperfections". The new album has adopted many different styles of music from jazz, trap, reggaeton, and salsa.

J.Lately distinguishes himself as an emcee with his soulful style and laid back flow. A true appreciation for music along with the unique ability to put everyday life into a relatable perspective has allowed him to flourish in the local Bay Area scene and beyond. His music possesses the rare ability to make you contemplate and vibe out simultaneously, finding the perfect balance between the conscious and the stoner. Coming from the small town of Sebastopol, and having split time between Oakland and Southern California, his influences are eclectic and mesh together effortlessly to form his own individual style. A relentless drive has kept Lately on tour across the country with artists such as Zion I, Locksmith, and A-Plus of the Hieroglyphics. He has released multiple solo and collaborative projects, with his most recent solo album, Be Fucking Happy, garnering the attention of many notable blogs and listeners alike.
