Synthicide Harsh Symmetry / Yama Uba Hype Mix - St Vitus Friday 5th May

Hello folks, after a short break on Soundcloud and some fulminant Blank Wave parties with Perel, Shubostar and Lauer, we're back again with a highly anticipated double feature: Welcome Andi, the New York City-based DJ and producer, who is also founder of the dark synth and industrial party and label, Synthicide. She contributed this marvellous exclusive mix for our Blank Wave series and is also playing her debut in Frankfurt on our event on Saturday, June 16 2023, at ono2 accompanied by Shia LaBiff. 

Andi now holds her ninth-year residency at Brooklyn’s notorious venue Bossa Nova Civic Club. Her aesthetic combines her devotion to underground 1980s industrial, EBM, new beat, and sleazy synth whose dark beats create an exciting soundscape that is unarguably danceable. She has DJed all over the world and is known in niche music circuits for her ability to mix together older tracks with new ones to create a diverse and unique set. Additionally, Andi is part of the ItaloMatic crew, a resident at The Lot Radio, and a resident DJ at the dark 80s new wave night, Music For the Masses.

Her own productions aim to challenge the expectations within the confines of the masculine EBM genre, often focusing on the ideas of revenge and strength through a woman’s perspective. Andi released her first EP, Corpse to Corpus, on aufnahme + wiedergabe in 2020, the Torque Force split EP with Randolph & Mortimer on Mecanica Records in 2021 and recently the EP Compelling Evidence on a+w. Now available for pre-order via Mannequin Records is her Parafernales EP feat. Machino.

The collaborative bi-coastal project between Andi (NYC) and Machino (LA) is dark, spiraling music that conflates the tension of running EBM basslines with the monstrosity of electro-saturated, industrialized beats. In 2021, Andi and Machino began sending music back and forth to each other virtually—thousands of miles apart—as they built upon their passion for creating off-the-cuff, dangerously degenerate dance tracks.

Parafernales, their first release out this summer on Mannequin, is a conceptual EP that deals with power struggles: love and lust, strength and destruction, dominating and domination. Andi's vocals are spoken, whispered, and yelled simultaneously, as if to mirror the mania of having control and losing it at the same time. The EP title, Parafernales, is a nod to Machino's first language of Spanish and stems from the idea of miscellany: it is parafernalia for drugs, or, simply, accessories for unsavory activities. With inspirations from turn-of-the-90s erotic thrillers to the Chilean post-punk band, Los Prisioneros, the duo collide in a manner that is unadulterated and, at times, completely unhinged.

Brixx, the Melbourne-based producer, delivers a cinematic fantasy with her conceptual LP, Erotomania. The ten-track album (that includes two remixes) delves into the steamy erotic thriller genre, one where sexual prowess, desire and a flirtation with death have no bounds. Erotomania feels like a long-lost soundtrack to a turn-of-the-90s film—one that spills over with lust and seduction—as synth melodies purr and the gated drum machines exclaimate overtop driving basslines.

Conseiller le jour et DJ la nuit, élevé et façonné par les sons de la new wave, de la trance précoce, de la techno du Midwest et de la disco iranienne, ce DJ et producteur désormais basé à Brooklyn, lorsqu'il n'agit pas comme l'un des critiques culturels postmodernes de la scène locale, est un sélectionneur qui joue courageusement avec l'italowave, l'EBM, l'électro et la techno pour les combiner et créer des sets sans fin, uniques et entraînants. Hailing from Texas, Semantix is a Persian-American producer, DJ, and live artist known for delivering an intersection of EBM and Techno, shattering dance floors from NYC to LA and everywhere in between. He’s released with NYC powerhouse Synthicide, Atlanta’s DKA records, contributed to VA compilations such as Berlin’s CRAVE Tapes and has produced remixes for some of EBM’s current heavy hitters from Comfort Cure and Nuxx Vomica to NYC cyber punks L.O.T.I.O.N.

With roots entrenched in diverse underground scenes, Semantix's music background spans from being a part of bands from punk/hardcore to post-punk, which has been a major influence on his style of EBM and Techno. Today he brings you a mix that traverses a spectrum from EBM to gritty Electro!
