The album artwork - split up into 9 collectable pieces - was created by the amazing Japanese artist and friend of the family; Ryuji Oguni. Ryuji was introduced to us by Groom Lake Agent Abu Qadim Haqq, known for his artworks for UR, Drexcyia, Transmat, Metroplex and more.

Testing some track bouncing for a hybrid set with only 2x303s

Seeing as I've recently bought myself a Behringer TD-3 303 clone I had to create an acid house track. The first of many, no doubt!

After 25 years of DJing Dr Hitchcock, aka Benet Hitchcock, has released his first original song “Dark Lorde 8888”.

A dark 303 acid bassline and spacious 808 drums drive the listener on, as melancholic keys from the Microfreak encourages them to look around. Before too long a distant voice shares what we’re really here to do. Dr Hitchcock describes his new track as a “Stumble-trip through the dark cyber valley on your way to the pixelated castle high up on the hill.”

Over the years Dr Hitchcock has run indie dance club nights, such as the Mixtape Connection, launched underground Internet radio station 8K.NZ, programmed the airwaves for independent FM station RDU 98.5 and released the Ōtautahi (Christchurch) mix CD “This is NOT the Christchurch Sound – Vol. 1”. 2022 sees his first solo effort hitting the ones and zeros.

The past seven years have been a little quiet on the music front due to his young family, but six months ago during preparation for the move from Ōtautahi to Narrm (Melbourne) he caught the synthesiser bug. “Dark Lorde 8888” is what he hopes will be the first of many songs to come.

This is not the first time Dr H and Ben have played together. In 2007 they collaborated on the Electro Pussy Posse (EPP) track “Minor Enlightenment” which closed the “This is NOT the Christchurch Sound – Vol. 1” compilation.

Hypnopaedia

Off in an AirBNB, so I thought I'd check out some of the Roland Cloud plugins I got with my promo subscription. This is all Juno 6, TB-303, and TR-909 but, like, 5 of each because it’s in a DAW. I'm undecided on the Roland Cloud implementation, generally, but that’s pretty cool!

The title is nonsense. My project name started out as “m-house” because I intended to make a melodic house track before I realized have exactly zero grasp of tenants and strictures of that genre. But by then I already had a preset on the Juno called "Mouse Pad" which I thought was too cute to give up. In the end, the song sounded very un-mouse like, so I made it an acronym because acronyms make everything feel more rock-n-roll.

It was fun working in DAW again, and it was a good chance to remember all the way in which I adore Logic. And this is probably the most controlled and shaped (and therefore, perhaps, the most “me”?) song I've made for Weekly Beats. But it was also a great reminder of the pitfalls associated with perfectionism, how limitless potential can be the enemy, and why the “constraints breed creativity” mantra of the DAW-less world were such a draw to me in the first place.

While Toni grew up under the smoke of Detroit and still fully into hip hop, Daniel was completely sold on the electronic music that was imported from there into Europe (albeit never losing his first love for Hip Hop and Electric Boogie). When they met each other, back in 2015, Toni proposed to join in to mc over Daniel’s live set at an illegal rave. When agreed, he did so while breakdancing / spinning on his head and the audience went completely mad, setting the stage for their endeavours to come. in May 2019, Toni visited Amsterdam again to go to the 909 Festival. When arriving home, still in a euphoric state, they started jamming together in Daniel’s studio. Inspired by the festival, the album’s title track “Rhinos’R’us” and “Luv That” were created. After hearing these tracks, they received an invitation to perform live at the Patterns festival in August 2019 and expanded their repertoire in just 5 days before hitting the stage. This live set eventually turned into an album during the pandemic, with remixes following after by some top notch producers, ready to hit the dance floors worldwide.
