Back in the mid 90’s, during the hight of the Acid Jazz scene and the Golden Era of Hip Hop, I took a number of trips to New York City where I visited a number of underground clubs, most notable, The Supper Club, The Cooler & Giant Step / Groove Collective and witnessed the incredible fusion of live dis and musicians jamming together on the same stage from crews like Brooklyn Funk Essentials & Us3!

These 3 turntable mixes are just a taste of those New York State experiences that would begin my life long journey into to combination the relationship between Jazz and Hip Hop.

In a bittersweet moment, De La Soul stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, March 16th, to perform “Stakes Is High” from their classic 1996 album of the same name. They were backed by The Roots, with Black Thought standing in for the late Trugoy the Dove’s verses on the track.

Questlove and the rest of The Roots band’s instrumental prowess blended perfectly with De La Soul’s criticism of hip-hop culture in 1996. Posdnuos reminded fans old and new of his command of the mic and sharp lyrics during the nearly six-minute performance, while Black Thought recited Trugoy’s words to perfection. Toward the end of the track, Posdnuos went acapella with his final verse.

The debut collaboration by Harlem, New York City raised, Ugandan born, award winning hip-hop creative Emma Lee M.C. and decorated German producer Roccwell is a potent offering of globally creative proportions. Merging her bold, flowful vocals and piercingly imaginary lyricism with his smooth, classic, world-renowned "boom bap" production over seven tracks, the two who met during a pandemic aimed to stifle their artistry have used the "new normals" as opportunity to create new energy, tell new stories and re-balance tastes in the culture. 

On the lead single “Like It’s 93” featuring hip-hop legend Masta Ace, listeners are treated to a unique twist on nostalgia. The dream duo gives us an unbeatable breather during the hooks which are elevated by an adaptation of classic neo-soul R&B, asking whether listeners are "craving something real?" The Clean Up Hour, Mix 287 (October 11, 2024): an Ode to 2004, Part 2 of 3

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, rapper Jelani Lateef aka J Fury has a music career spanning more than a decade. Best known for his thought provoking lyrics and soulful brand of hip-hop, Jelani expanded from simply being a rapper to a producer and CEO.

Born to to a single parent in Flatbush Brooklyn Akingbadé (Badé) Francis was heavily Influenced by hip hop music.
  
He made his debut as the 4th member of the spoken word group Second 2 Last.Continuing the legacy of the Last Poets.The group met in Pratt institute where he studied Fine art, Graphic Design and Illustration.Second 2 last dominated the underground spoken word scene in New York.Opening up for the Roots and the Pharcyde. They dropped 2 Full length projects Say Word and Babble On.
   
When the scene changed and the group Split he thought that was it and stepped away from the spotlight.Mentally blocked he threw himself into his art but Hip Hop still breathed life into his soul. Between Club hopping and Abstract painting he wrote, over time his poetry turned into rhymes.

Feeling that something was missing and frustrated with the stripper rap and murder music
dominating Pop driven Rap.He took his name King Pleasure from The world renowned artist Basqiat who he hung out with in Washington Square Park as a teen.

Picking up the Pen Once again King Pleasure was born.MC and Multi Media artist King Pleasure is ready to rock the world one rhyme at a time

In 1993, Beatnik formed Beatnik Academy a creative and imagination concept that allow some of Bermuda’s most skilful Djs, Artist and Musicians the opportunity to perform at events where they could display their talents and grow artistically.
This skilful “turntablist” has rocked the house at Bounty Killer, Busta Rhymes, and the Lost Boys concerts. As a member of the Beatnik Academy, he has DJ’ed along with celebrities, Kid Capri and Jazzy Jeff. He has also charged the atmosphere of art exhibitions for International artists, like – Manual Palicio and Bruce Stuart, as well as at countless beach parties, house parties, cruise boat parties, and Poetry & Book Festivals.
In May, 2004, Beatnik moved to London and formed Spredluv Collective, which showcased some of the finest young talent from around the world.
Beatnik has DJed at numerous Clubs and DJ bars in London, most notably The Met Bar, Cafe` de Paris, Cafe 1001 and Lockside. The launch of MTV’s Viva.
