Directed by Mike Hodges, Flash Gordon is the space opera superhero film based on the King Features comic strip of the same name created by Alex Raymond.

Pathetic Earthings Luke and Jae take the journey back to 1980 to review this cult classic.

Although NASA scientists are claiming the unexpected eclipse and strange "hot hail" are nothing to worry about, Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol) knows better, and takes football star Flash Gordon (Sam Jones) and travel agent Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) with him into space to rectify things. They land on planet Mongo, where the despot Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow) is attacking Earth out of pure boredom. With the help of a race of Hawkmen, Flash and the gang struggle to save their home planet.

Episode 31 of Canon Fodder welcomes our new co-host, Pat! Canon Fodder Episode 31: James Bond Part 2: Dalton And Brosnan

Roughly 9 months ago [Episode 034], in a podcast studio, in a different room, we did an episode about the hunky dudes, hot babes and all of the slam-pieces that made our 'towels necessary' and our Wrangler's warm and tight. So this week, in honor of Pride Month, we have our annual Going Gay episode once again. We start off talking about our weekends and Maxwell's graduation party at the Eitzenburg household, Jenn decided to clean her house finally, we made an amazing discovery regarding the Boot Barn coupons we have been receiving at bubbmush@gmail.com and we're considering legal action against the criminal miscreant. Next up we talk about how crumby it is to drive around in west Michigan with all the differently-abled people with driver's licenses in this area and Jenn's new cyborg teeth. Katie and Edward's neighborhood has had some drama as of late involving a young couple who probably should break up and are in the process of doing that (loudly). They were throwing phones and vape pens and Trojan rubbers all over the place. The U-Haul showed up shortly thereafter.

So anyway, back to the Going Gay-er Gayme,  Edward is excited to let us all know about his favorite 'celebs' and Luke had to do some unorthodox Googling in order to create his list. Hear about the special victims that make Katie go "yee-haw!", the ancient new-wave men that make Jenn's undercarriage tingle, the old lady with the massive personalities that Edward drools over and Luke's special ladies that have lost their noodle... as long as they have a massive bush. We also discover that Edward loves watching men swallow things whole, Jenn is only interested in seeing one type of hairy lips, Luke is willing to get rid of his "whole dick and balls" and Katie is unable to get a hold of 'Babs' on Instagram (ours is @bubbmush if you want to follow us).

This week we discuss the movie George Lucas WANTED to make, but couldn't get the rights to - Flash Gordon - which is why he had to come up with his own space fantasy story instead... can't remember what that was called...

A couple of months ago, Luke and I had a short discussion on March Madness. I showed him an NCAA bracket and he instantly said, ‘we should do one for James Bond.’ I duly put one together, grouping the bonds together and facing them off basically using Connery, Dalton, and Brosnan on one side and Moore and Craig on the other. Then we went to it, and the results may surprise you.

34.9 The James Bond Bracket

It’s part 2 of Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy, which means we get to make a hot fuss about Hot Fuzz!
A film which features four Oscar winners, only two of whom are actually credited; James Bond retrospectively auditioning to be a Columbo villain; and even if we don’t see a dog look up, we do see a Hound say “Yarp”.
Whilst “Hot Fuzz” is an exceedingly British spin on the very American sub genre of the buddy cop action movie; it also borders fantastically into the familiar trappings of folk horror; with our hero moving to an insular village of spiteful Daily Mail readers, willing to sacrifice anyone and everyone for “the greater good.”
With some returnees from “Shaun of the Dead”, along with more 90s/00s comedy stalwarts and a whole host of distinguished British characters actors; this movie maintains the momentum of its predecessor without ever being in its shadow, and, most importantly, is as funny as fuck.

Ep 198 - Hot Fuzz

Just after we finished the bracket for the best James Bond film, Luke and I kept on going, using the same bracket and the same faulty feeders to determine the best James Bond theme song. Just like the film bracket, the results here might surprise you.  


Jack White and Alicia Keyes made cinema history when they collaborated on what White called “the most divisive thing I’ve ever done,” the theme song to Quantum of Solace titled “Another Way to Die.” EON Productions originally tried to sign Amy Winehouse, but her death opened the door to White who saw a shrinking schedule as a way to capitalize on doing something completely original. Keeping to a musical style dating back to Tina Turner’s incredible title song to “Goldeneye,” White brought in Alicia Keyes to add an R and B flavor to his alternative bent. The result, “Another Way to Die” has become a James Bond Theme song you either love or hate. Like it or not, the song remains the only duet in the James Bond catalogue to describe what it must be like for a secret agent to deal with the immense pressures of life undercover. With White’s guitar and Keyes’ piano leading a cacophony of sound, Another Way to Die has become a powerhouse anthem of fear and anxiety – definitely an unusual way of thinking about cinema’s most famous spy.
