Placid aka Paul Wise is the chief in command at ‘We’re Going Deep’ – an online community and record label, born out of a lifelong affair with the many shades of electronic rhythm and obsession for collecting records since 1988.

Known to many in underground House and Techno circles, he’s spent the last 3 decades moving heads and feet at select venues, parties and fields across the UK and beyond. On a mission to share and release new music via his imprint: you’ll find only the best in Acid, Electro, IDM, Techno and Deep House for the dance floor, front room or even just your headphones. 

For the latest solo series edition, Paul reaches out to the talents of UK based songwriter and producer James Shinra, for a heavyweight 4 track EP of 303 fuelled excursions.  Hitting the floor head on with the muscular tones of “Jaunt” on A1 – punchy 808 percussion builds with jarring rave-etched synthesis, before rushing into the roar of a 303 grabs you by the scruff of the neck and unleashes a rolling groove that jacks hard until the twisted end. Do not be fooled by the calmer overtures of A2 “Venture”, Shinra unleashes another rolling 4 to the 4 floor workout. Balancing airy leads and shifting pads to precision programmed beats, the TB saws its way through to maximum frequency exposure over the course to brazen effect.

On the B-Side, B1 “WASP” takes control via deeper bass tones, squelching tweaks and A-A-Acid vocal chants, all paced at a solid mid-tempo groove that really brings things to the boil: just when you need it. Signing off with the stunning IDM inflected melodies of “Flexion” on B2 – Shinra shows his mastery of space and warmth with this beautifully balanced slice of Electronica that really is the icing on the cake.

Where does time go? It dissolves into crystalline pools of mirroring aluminium, it retreats into shallow puddles of shame and joy.

In our final instalment of this latest season, WE FORFEIT are digging deep into the collections to pluck out some old favourites, recent acquisitions and all-round top tracks.

Italo gets the ball rolling, as it does with many the night out. Techno is well represented with some beauts from Deniro, Gilbert, Oid and Sabre. Electro? Of course with Chris delivering some corkers care of Fabio Vinuesa, The Hacker and Ultradyne (to name but a few.) House is chewed up and spat out by John Heckle with other bangers to keep the mind racing.

For the latest solo series edition, Paul reaches out across the Mediterranean straights to the island nation of Malta to the formidable Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana – two of Europe’s finest purveyors of heads-down House and sultry deep grooves. Having both worked on solo projects and together for well over a decade now, their joint projects have graced the likes of Underground Quality, Moods & Grooves, Deep Explorer alongside their own imprint Batti Batti: a perfect match. 

Laying down 4 cuts of impeccable late night fuel, the EP opens with A1 ‘Going Deep’ a subtle yet expansive 4/4 mover that holds the floor with a trance inducing lead and dubby effects. Sweeping in with sun kissed melodics and spacious percussion – A2 ‘Dub Setting’ is an ode to the Maltese morning haze if there ever was one.

On the flip, B1 ‘Chi-Town Love’ steps up a notch with tight drums and rolling bassline, as layered chords fizz away and build into their rhythm. Last but not least, B2 ‘The Beginning’ brings things home as punchy 909 percussion and stringed melodics tease for several minutes. Before heavy Juno bass action drops and leaves you jackin’ the freak to close out in style.

Bringing the sounds of a true pioneer of Electro and Techno fusion to the next WGD solo series edition, Carl Finlow is renown for seamlessly blending the rhythmic intricacies of Electro with the hypnotic allure of Techno: creating a unique sonic identity that resonates deep down to this day. 
As a founding member of the iconic 20/20 Vision label, there is no doubting his pivotal role or pedigree in shaping the sounds of the Electronic music landscape, having released timeless music that has transcended genres over the past decades. 

A master of the sonic journey that blends futuristic textures with a timeless essence, he sets out his stall with the creeping drawl of ‘Equi’ on A1, leading with heavyweight bass that’s set to cycle as metronomic snares pop to sci-fi synthesis that can’t help but make your body twitch. It is however the lush shimmer of ‘Aether’ A2 that really captures the heart and soul. A tour de force in emotive Electronics that arise from the depths of Atlantis to sweep you into a whole other moment of existential bliss. A superlatively crafted composition fuelled by the power of the DX-100, awash with melancolic strings and whispy melodies that are combined to perfection – ANTHEM alert!

Over on the reverse, the menacing rumble of ‘Affinity’ takes hold on B1 as Finlow exercises a certain prowess balancing airy textures with the visceral, creeping to the finish line with nothing but gold on his mind. Lastly, the 80s spectrum tinged tones of ‘Septagon’ B2 lead us on to another level as you’re lured in by downright gnarly bottom end, as glassy arps and atmospheric touches complete his vision.
