The inaugural release of the Quito-based record label, Caracteres sees the debut LP from Ópalo, the project of talented producer Alejandro Romero, with whom we got familiar a few months ago when we premiered his track, Tiempo, which came out on Futurepast. 
Using drum machines, synths, and keyboards, Ópalo explores ambient, IDM, and leftfield realms, and all that spiced up with a good old trip-hop. 
For his album 'La Edad Invisible,' Alejandro worked closely with Joaquin Dávila, who asked Alejandro to make music for his video art projects. 
Our premiere for today, 'Todo Lo Sólido Se Desvanece En El Aire,' sounds like it is made for some video art project. With its lush drone, vocoder sequence, and melancholy melody, the track creates a somewhat gloomy atmosphere reminiscent of the end of the journey, the start of the new chapter, and the great unknown. 
'La Edad Invisible' LP is coming out on January 22 via Caracteres.

Alejandro Romero dived into electronic music at the age of fourteen. He enjoyed listening to a wide spectrum of styles within the genre. His passion for mysterious and deep records increased with the years, going from the common to the most unusual kind of beats. His first attempt to expose his productions was under his own name and he kindly received feedback and likes from labels like Futurepast, Honne Music, Todd Nerdy, WhatNowBecomes and a few more from around the globe. After this success he decided to pursue a career in the Latin American scene with a new moniker called 'Amalgama'. This moniker had the intention to release non-binary music in which he pulled out records on labels like Halcxn, Cavilar, Organic Records, Ruem Trax, Impresión and his own label Overlap Records. The project highlight is a four track vinyl release in the Berlin based label 'System Error'. At the same time Alejandro had the necessity to explore downtempo and ambient realms. He discovered a whole new scene thanks to the attention of webzines like Delayed and Inverted Audio who premiered tracks from his past releases. With this support he launched 'Ópalo', an alias created to expose his taste for experimental downtempo and idm music. His first release under this moniker was an seven track album called 'La Edad Invisible' which was released in Caracteres, a sub label of Overlap Records created for ambient and electronica.

Alejandro future projects include an alias called Quantum, a moniker that compiles his past works that where not considered by records labels. He discovered this music was unique and special. Part of the project is to expose his taste for abstract art made by him with oil on paper. In the present he's still curating the boutique label Overlap Records and his sub label Caracteres.

Alejandro Romero is a music producer and DJ who started his career by composing electronic minimal tracks, inspired also in house and deep house music. His career has developed over the years, creating projects like his main output 'Ópalo' which is dedicated to produce music in the spectrum of ambient, electronic and downtempo. As Alejandro Romero, he has made his
own name by releasing in labels like Futurepast from Berlin and other music labels across Latvia, México, and Ecuador. Now he is focusing on developing music that's influenced by rap, reggae and other genres which are moving away from the electronic dancefloor scene, but making him grow as a musician and as a person.

The EP "Danza en el Espacio" was composed under the influence of minimal house, with the goal of creating something gentle and deep for the dance floor. At that time, I was still exploring my style, so this release is unique in that it revives elements from my youth, when I was into club and electronic music. Each track is filled with emotion and combines elements of house, minimal, and even techno. It's always nice to revisit early works created with love and dedication.

Alejandro Romero's latest EP on Deep Meanings is characterized by a sound of broken beats and analog sequences. Pads and synthesizers provide the backdrop for the compositions, which have a very subtle electronic touch created with drum machines and keyboards. Minimalist percussion and minor harmonies punctuated by arpeggios and discreet arrangements are heard.
