Sugar alternatives are supposed to be safe and healthy low-calorie options that can be used in place of refined and processed sugar. 

Their great appeal is that they allow you to eat sweet things without gaining weight. But they don’t actually work as well as you might think. 

Before we get into that, though, here are the best natural sugar alternatives for patients with Hashimoto’s: 

1. Monk fruit
2. Allulose
3. Stevia
4. Sugar alcohols

But here’s why I don’t recommend them: 
1. They are all heavily processed.
2. They aren’t considered real food. 
3. They aren’t side effect-free. 
4. And they aren’t the miracle weight loss treatment you think they are. 

Instead, I recommend forgoing the natural options and using natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup. 

If you aren’t willing to accept the calories associated with these sweeteners, they you shouldn’t eat their low-calorie alternatives because it will just make you crave more sweets in the future.

La transition écologique est une nécessité identifiée depuis longtemps et pourtant les tendances alarmantes sur la pollution, la biodiversité, l’épuisement des ressources ou le réchauffement climatique s’aggravent d’année en année. Comment donc assurer cette transition plus respectueuse de l’environnement? Quel devrait être son levier? L’État ou les groupements citoyens? Doit-on imposer ce changement par le haut et courir le risque d’une dérive autoritariste, ou peut-on compter sur les initiatives décentralisées, dont l’impact pourrait être limité?


Pour cet épisode, nous avons fait dialoguer: 


- François Xavier Hutteau, doctorant à l’Université de Genève qui travaille sur la question des technologies et du calcul en nature pour la planification écologique. Il est également militant au sein du collectif Strike sur la transition énergétique. Il compte plutôt sur le rôle de l’État pour assurer cette transition.


- Armand Paris, animateur du podcast « Sortir du Capitalisme » (https://sortirducapitalisme.fr/) depuis 2016 avec plusieurs émissions consacrées à l’écologie. Il a également co-animé Zoom écologie sur Fréquence Paris Plurielle (FPP) en 2022-2023. Lui tend à souligner le rôle clé de la décentralisation dans cette transition. 


Sans être très éloignés sur les objectifs à atteindre, nos deux invités échangent sur les meilleurs moyens, en s’appuyant sur des expériences historiques pour assurer une planification écologique significative et durable.

Transition écologique - Par le haut ou par le bas?


Pour cet épisode 151 je reçois Jérôme Sorrel auteur d'un Guide du Paris à vélo.


Paris attire tous les regards ainsi que des millions de touristes. Ils viennent du monde entier chaque année pour découvrir ses monuments, ses musées et son charme. Notre capitale inspire les artistes et les créateurs, ses rues deviennent les décors de nombreux films. Sa richesse culturelle est incontestable et depuis plusieurs années le vélo est devenu le moyen de transport préféré de ceux qui doivent s'y déplacer. Le vélotaf s'impose et le vélo se met aussi au service de la curiosité de ceux qui veulent découvrir cette capitale qui se prolonge dans ses environs au-delà du périphèrique. Jérôme Sorrel connait bien ces deux aspects. Il a découvert les vertus du vélotaf grâce aux grèves des transports et la panne concomitante de son scooter. Depuis il sillonne Paris dans tous les sens sur un biclou, car une journée sans pédaler, c'est une journée gâchée, comme il le proclame à l'envie dans son podcast.

Is there a connection between the use of artificial sweeteners and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis? Well, there’s at least one case study that showed an interesting connection:

One woman was able to completely put her Hashimoto’s into remission by doing one thing: avoid artificial sweeteners. 

Does this mean that the use of these compounds cause Hashimoto’s or that they should be avoided by everyone? It doesn’t. 

But it does suggest that removing them from your diet is a VERY good idea if you have this condition for the following reasons: 

1. There are very few treatments available for patients with Hashimoto’s so you might as well take advantage of the few that exist. 

2. You won’t cause any harm by removing them from your diet. 

3. The use of artificial sweeteners has been linked to other health problems in humans and animals. 

4. There’s no need to consume artificial sweeteners given that there are more natural low-calorie sweet options available. 

5. There are other, better ways for patients with Hashimoto’s to lose weight!
