Mission In The Jungle Vol. 9

These tracks were the results of trying out different musical ideas…. just leaning more on musical changes to keep the ears interested and jamming with the sounds to see what came out. Keeping things roughly around 160 bpm tempo just leaves more room to really appreciate the breaks for their character and feel, and I hope this comes across.

Shouts to the Invisible Man for the guidance & critical ear, Ed Steele & the festival crew for helping me remember what it’s all about, my wife for the support and Fanu for the excellent suggestions during the mastering process.

Part 3 of my series on the early history of Liquid Drum & Bass. This time I have widened the scope to include tracks from 1994-1999.

Chris Steffen was born and raised just 15 min south of downtown Detroit. His older brother introduced him to the MTV show Amp, through which he instantly fell in love with the music he was hearing, but, there was a problem. He had no idea where he could go to buy, let alone hear music like this. It wasn't until 1998 that a friend of his asked him to come to a "club" called "Technology" with him that he had gone to the previous weekend. Little did he know, he was finally going to get the chance to witness his first underground electronic music event, held at the now legendary East Town Theater. Upon walking through the doors he instantly realized that this was something he really wanted to become a part of. In late 1999, after messing around with a friends turntables, he decided that he wanted to dj. He started buying records and learning the basics. Since starting to dj, he has played everything from Trance to Jungle, but he finally found his true love in Deep House. Since then, he has continued to bring the deep sound that he loves to people.

The evolution of Sub-Lo started in Chicago where he grew up immersed in the music scene. You could find him playing in garage bands at VFW halls and church basements. Eventually exploring the city, he stumbled upon Chicago’s deeply rooted house scene where he began experimenting with electronic music. After moving to Florida he began blending genres and crafting a diverse sound with a heavy emphasis on BASS!
