Morning Worship Service: "After the Celebration" (Luke 15:11-32) - June 20, 2021

“For many of us God can seem a bit impenetrable.
If only God wasn’t quite so ‘other’, we’d find God easier to relate to. 
If only God was more visible, we’d find it easier to believe. 
In Jesus, God has shared our humanity and become one with us. 
In Jesus, God has revealed his love and has come near to us so that we might know him.”

We conclude our sermon series on 2 Corinthians this week by reflecting on Paul’s final prayer in the book, known by many Christians simply as “the grace”. We see how Paul through meeting the Risen Jesus has come to believe that Jesus reveals the fullness and grace of God to us. It is through the Jesus who has shared our humanity that we meet and know God.

We think about grace being the fragrance of Jesus. Jesus gives himself for us in loving grace that we might know a new relationship with God. Jesus prays that we might live in grace as we strive to live in peace with others.

Our Bible readings for this Sunday are Luke 15.11-24 and 2 Corinthians 13.5-13, read by members of our church.

Our service opens with the hymn I will sing the wondrous story and closes with Spirit of God within me, both recorded at previous services at South Street Baptist Church.  The more modern song Father God, was recorded for these recorded service broadcasts.

Our closing music is played by Chris Meech, one of our organists.
