Das Kino hat mal wieder was zu bieten. Dennis und Tobit schnacken über allerlei Filmchen von heißerwarteten Beiträgen rekurrierender Regisseure bis zu kleinen Geheimtipps und Biopics, nach denen nicht so wirklich wer gefragt hat. Wenn sich künstliche Klone im Faschismus orientieren müssen, biologische Klone von Spielzeugaffen heimgesucht werden, Bob Dylan von Timothée Chalamet geklont wird und sich das Pflegepersonal im Krankenhaus über die Unmöglichkeit tatsächlichen Klonens aufregt, dann ist mal wieder die Zeit reif, Filmjoker zu hören!

De negentiende aflevering van het vierde seizoen van Cinepraatjes, de podcast van Cinemaatjes is een extra lange aflevering geworden. Er is nl. een gast aangeschoven en dit keer is het Richard Olthof van de filmpodcast Filmerds. We staan even stil bij het tragische overlijden van Gene Hackman. We hebben ook nog een pakketje ontvangen van één van onze luisteraars met daarin drie blu-rays. We hebben ook een nieuw maatje op onze Patreon-pagina. Richard kwam nog met een nieuwtje over de Bond-reeks waarvan de rechten zijn gekocht door Amazon. JP komt nog met een oud nieuwtje over ‘They Follow’ in ons schijtem. Marino komt weer met een prachtig sonnet, wat we proberen te raden. Richard heeft gekeken naar de animatiefilm ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’. William en JP zijn samen naar de nieuwe film van Bong Joon Ho ‘Mickey 17’ in de bioscoop geweest en William wil het toch ook kort nog even over de grote winnaar van de Oscars ‘Anora’ hebben. We trokken een film uit de kast, die veel beter zou hebben gepast bij de vorige aflevering, namelijk ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’. Omdat Richard samen met Filmerds ook regelmatig een filmquiz organiseert, verrast hij ons nu ook met een filmquiz met een heuse prijs. In onze Special spelen we een zelfbedacht spel over de monsterfilms. Richard bedacht hiervoor de naam ‘Grom & Glorie’ en William de spelregels. En we beantwoorden ook vragen van luisteraars over o.a. 4K-films, films op onze “to watch”-list, gave filmposters, films die beter zijn dan ‘Jurassic Park’ en welke heilige een film verdient. BT 60 Teaser - MICKEY 17, COMPANION, BROKEN RAGE, HEART EYES + FIGHT OR FLIGHT (Spoilers)

After a little time off, we're back at the cinema to see Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi comedy, Mickey 17, in which Robert Pattinson dies. Repeatedly. Leaving Earth on a spaceship seeking to colonise an icy planet, Pattinson's Mickey is an "Expendable": a disposable worker given lethal assignments, regenerated by a biological printer, and sent out to die again. But when the 17th version of Mickey fails to die at the mandibles of the local fauna, he finds his way back to the colony, only to find that he's already been reprinted as Mickey 18 - and clone coexistence is strictly prohibited.

We're disappointed by what looked like a marvellously energetic, knockabout comedy and social satire from the trailer. Even considering the film's very broad tone, there's too little in the characterisation to really buy in to, a severe lack of pace, and an ending that betrays it. Nonetheless, as failures go, it's an interesting one, playing with plenty of ideas, and featuring more than enough good jokes to support it. Our recommendation of Mickey 17 is far from whole-hearted, but you ought to give it a whirl.

Mickey 7 tells the story of Mickey Barnes, an expendable, that is a body that can be reprinted again and again, who is part of an expedition to colonize and terraform the ice planet Niflheim. The planet is inhabited by cockroach, rolly polly, armadillo like creatures called Creepers, who stand in the way of the colony’s efforts to gain a foothold. On one of his missions into the planet, Mickey 7 falls into a cavern and is left for dead, causing the colony to print a Mickey 8. When Mickey 7 doesn’t die and returns to the colony, the two bodies plot how to keep this multiple pairing unknown while also learning more about the creepers and the colony’s intentions. Themes include: the perils of colonization, and identity.

The film adaptation was written and directed by Bong Joon-ho (Parasite, The Host, Snowpiercer, Memories of Murder, Okja) and stars Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. The film is Bong Joon-ho’s eighth feature film and long-awaited follow-up to the multi Oscar-winning Parasite which won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature.
