12 mai 2021: « Ce n’est pas tant que les lobbys [des entreprises vendeuses de pesticides] sont puissants, c’est la vigilance de nos institutions qui fait défaut. » C’est leur mollesse dans la défense de l’intérêt public en agriculture, selon Louis Robert, auteur du livre Pour le bien de la terre, une formidable contribution qui sort du ronron des satisfaits.

Il aborde la question du glyphosate mais aussi celle des néonicotinoïdes qui font souvent la manchette et continue à être utilisées même s'il y a une étude québécoise qui prouve qu'elles sont inutiles. 

Alors qu'on oppose souvent agriculture bio et rendement agricole, comme s’il s’agissait de deux concepts contradictoires, Louis Robert insiste qu’il n’y a rien qui prouve que l’agriculture bio ne peut pas avoir un rendement similaire à l’agriculture conventionnelle. Mais il précise qu'il n'est pas nécessairement pour ou contre le bio, notant que l'agriculture conventionnelle fait beaucoup de progrès.

Dans son livre, Louis Robert se désole de l'acceptation par nos institutions de conflits d'intérêt évidents de certains agronomes employées des entreprises de pesticides, mais se console ne citant Upton Sinclair:  "Il est difficile d’amener une personne à comprendre quelque chose quand son salaire dépend de son refus de le comprendre. "

When large populations of grasshoppers and crickets appear in western rangelands in the U.S., the government sprays those areas with pesticides to kill the targeted insects. The spraying program also kills many non-target species. The areas that are sprayed include wilderness, national forest lands and wildlife refuges, and areas used by ranchers for livestock.
 
The Center for Biological Diversity is suing an arm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its' spraying program, contending that the spraying can result in the extinction of over 230 protected species in those areas, species which are a necessary part of a diverse ecosystem.
