Alistair Cockburn - Designing Quality of Life

Johnny FD is the host of Travel Like A Boss Podcast and Author of '12 Weeks in Thailand: The Good Life on the Cheap'. We talk about how he got to making $10k per month, selling his first dropshipping store for $60k, the shopify dropshipping method vs the Amazon FBA importing method, his Travel Like a Boss Podcast, and his tips for getting started as a digital nomad.

Johnny's the one who basically got us out to Chiang Mai to join the digital nomad community, therefore changing our lives forever, so this is a special one.  Like many of us out here, we first heard about Chiang May by stumbing upon his youtube video 'My $200 Apartment in Chiang Mai', and from there discovered his blog about living cheap in Thailand and making a living online thru dropshipping ecommerce businesses. 

Soon after following his blog, he and Anton Kraly of DropshipLifestyle.com announced that they were putting on a Digtial Nomad conference in Chiang Mai in October 2014. This was crucial for us cuz it marked a deadline on our calendar to quit our jobs and make that jump out to Thailand, and the dream of extended world travel. 

We met 100 other digital nomads there, some new, some experienced, and we just payed attention to what people were doing, and the rest is history. 

I will thank Johnny & Anton forever for putting on the retreat cuz it was the perfect excuse to get out there and make things happen. Now I feel like I'm on vacation everyday: I wake up when I want, eat out 3 meals a day, choose my own working hours, and get to be constantly surrounded by palm trees, exotic cultures, and happy people. Thanks boys

Growing Your Real Estate Investment Team One of the biggest things we've been working on over the past few months has been our business systems. These changes and enhancements to the business have been mostly predicated on business growth. Our systems were perfectly designed for where we were, but not for where we wanted to go. Along with these systems we've been talking about expanding the team. The struggle when growing your real estate investment team can come from numerous angles. Do they share a similar vision? Will they jive with current company culture? Are they someone I&nbsp;want to work with? David Glinski, the newest co-host here at Note MBA, meets all these qualifications and then some. We're beyond excited to have him on the team. Video And We Record In-Person The last time we recorded a podcast episode in the same room the audio was awful. Which by itself isn't great. However, we were recording with a $100 million dollar hedge fund manager at the time. So, I'd say awful is an understatement. This time the audio was perfect, thankfully. It also gives you a very preliminary preview of what might be to come for the podcast. We've love to do more videos. And now that we have David on board, we should be able to pull it off. -Transparent about their own experience and maintain an objective viewpoint. They use phrases like, “I noticed that you are doing …..” and “In my own experience, I have found that I can fix that problem by…”. 

-Act as your teammate to get you better. 
You are PAYING them to get you better and therefore, it is their job to get you to improve. You don’t owe them a superiority complex and you should not tolerate such.

-Balance Negative Criticism with Positive Criticism. 
The human mind is inherently geared towards negativity. Some say it should be 1:3 ratio of negative:positive comments, but the bottom line is understanding that the brain is hypersensitive to negative comments. If your teacher is only telling you everything you are doing wrong, and not praising your accomplishments in performance, or picking something up quickly, you will soon establish a negative bias and low self-confidence in your ability to make music.
-Leave you inspired and motivated to improve your musical skills on a regular basis. To me this aspect of a teacher has become more important as I have gone further in my piano career. A lot of times, I do know the corrections to make, but my main problem seems to be being able to maintain a sustained level of motivation and perspective of why I continue  growing as a musician. Kyle Landry is one of my teachers who hands down makes me feel like a million bucks as I come out of my lesson.

-Are an actively performing regularly. 
This may not be important to you if you don’t care to share your music but for me, this is a crucial non-negotiable in finding a piano instructor because there are struggles in performance that are not present inside the practice room.
