From the well-tempered clavier to the digital flow of AI, music has always stumbled over its own inventions — and Duran Duran is living proof of this dance between resistance and surrender. In 1981, when they printed on the ‘Planet Earth’ single the almost defiant note that it ‘contains no synthesizers,’ they seemed to declare an instrumental purity in a world already glowing in neon. Decades later, destiny — ironic and patient — placed them as icons of an aesthetic that breathes electronics through every pore: from the synth-pop pioneered by German trailblazers to the retro-futurist synthwave that reimagined the very ‘80s they helped define.
