I will also guide you through TWO basic meditation exercises, which you can do anytime, anywhere (just be careful if you're driving). These meditation practices mean you will start meditating TODAY. You will finish this episode with both a thorough understanding of your meditation journey, AND with your first meditation experience DONE! In this episode, we will explore meditation and mindfulness together. The word mindfulness has become trendy maybe even a bit overused. You might even feel like meditation is yet another thing to add to your already full to-do list and you can't imagine fitting one more thing in!  What if I told you that small practices can be transformative and even little doses of mindfulness can help you with stress and overwhelm? Mindfulness practices are founded in ancient traditions going back at least 3,000 years and have been formally researched and studied since the 1960s. Cracking the Mindfulness Code: From Trend to Transformation

Dit is de uitgebreide versie van de Meditatie op de 5 Hindernissen  (57m).

In deze meditatie gaan we oefenen met het aanschouwen van de vijf hindernissen in onze geest

Volgens de leer van de Boeddhistische psychologie beschreef de Boeddha 5 mentale toestanden die het bereiken van Bewuste Opmerkzaamheid en Aandachtig Bewustzijn overschaduwden.

Deze mentale toestanden werpen een schaduw over de beoefening van concentratie en het Open Gewaarzijn. Deze 5 toestanden, ook wel omschreven als de 5 hindernissen, zijn: verlangen, afkeer, slaperigheid, rusteloosheid en twijfel

Het is goed om je bewust te zijn dat je deze hindernissen niet hoeft te zien als ‘obstakels die overwonnen moeten worden’. Ze overkomen de meest ervaren meditatie-leraren en keren voortdurend terug in de dagdagelijkse praktijk van het dagelijkse leven.

De toestanden beschrijven daarnaast geen fysieke staat van zijn. De Hindernissen zijn mentale toestanden. Het zijn toestanden van onze geest en daarmee onderdeel van onze mentale processen.

Om die reden zijn de hindernissen onderhevig aan dezelfde omstandigheden van onze gedachten en emotionele toestanden: ze zijn vergankelijk en impermanent.

Ze komen op en ze drijven weg, zoals al onze ervaringen opkomen en weer wegebben in de oceaan van ons gewaarzijn.

Je hoeft deze mentale toestanden dus ook niet te verdrijven. Je hoeft ze niet te overwinnen of op te lossen. De toestanden zijn geen probleem. Ze lossen zichzelf op. De toestanden worden pas hindernissen wanneer wij ze in stand houden door ze als permanent te zien en als blijvend te ervaren.

De oefening is daarom gewaarworden en de hindernissen opmerken wanneer ze optreden - ze te onderzoeken terwijl ze aanwezig zijn - en ze weer te laten gaan wanneer ze hun eigen pad weer volgen in de zee van onze ervaringen.

Ook de 5 Hindernissen zijn uiteindelijk niet meer dan wolken in de lucht van ons Open Gewaarzijn.

Wij zijn de getuige… De Hindernissen vormen slechts het weer...

Dit is de uitgebreide versie van de meditatie op het Vierde Fundament van Mindfulness: Dhamma's (58 min)

Dhammas (Sanskrit: Dharma, Pali: Dhamma ):
“Waarheid”, “Kosmische Wetmatigheden”, “Categorieën van Mentale Fenomenen”. Ook: het opmerken van gedachten als mentale gebeurtenissen, inclusief bewustwording van de wijze van omgaan met onze gedachten en emoties.

In deze meditatie gaan we oefenen in het ontwikkelen van het Vierde Fundament van onze Opmerkzame Aandacht - de opmerkzaamheid van Mentale Verschijningsvormen en geestelijke activiteit.

De uitnodiging in onze beoefening van Sati - dat wil zeggen: de uitnodiging tot de ontwikkeling van onze Bewuste Aandacht en onze Innerlijke Opmerkzaamheid - is ook altijd om ons bewust te zijn van onze gedachten als Geestelijke Activiteiten die Reageren op Mentale Fenomenen

Bewustzijn van de Mentale Verschijningsvormen wordt gevormd door Bewust Aandacht voor:
- de vijf hindernissen,
- de vijf verschijningsvormen van vergankelijkheid (khandas)
- de zes zintuigen,
- de zeven elementen van bevrijding en
- Opmerkzaamheid van de vier Nobele Waarheden

Het benoemen, waarnemen en bewust opmerken van de Mentale Activitieten en Fenomen van de geest is van belang omdat dit ons in staat stelt de Wijsheid te ontwikkelen en de vaardigheid te cultiveren om los te laten wat ons niet helpt of ons hindert bij het ontwikkelen van Zuiver Inzicht en Vaardig Handelen en te onderscheiden wat ons wel helpt om tot Zuiver Inzicht te komen en om Vaardig te kunnen handelen

Ons inzicht in ons handelen, onze intentie achter ons spreken en onze denken, onze compassie en mildheid in ons leven begint bij sati.

Het vierde fundament van sati, de grondslag van onze bewuste aandacht, wordt gevormd door bewuste aandacht voor de dhammas - de opmerkzaamheid van de Activiteiten en de Fenomenen van onze Geest.

Scott's creative journey reveals how a forgotten teenage superhero comic transformed into a powerful ministry tool two decades later. What began as "Spirit Man"—a campy character in spandex—evolved into something profound when his artistic friend Paul reconnected through a youth mentorship program called Portable Vision.

The reimagined comic follows Martin, a 15-year-old who feels insignificant until his spirit begins projecting into the physical world wearing the full armor of God. Through this supernatural storytelling device, Scott illustrates how spiritual warfare isn't just a quiet, meditative practice but a dynamic reality where believers make genuine difference. Most remarkably, these comics now serve practical ministry purposes in prisons and hospitals, reaching people in crisis situations.

Scott's humility shines throughout our conversation as he recounts directing a church play where everything seemingly went wrong—he tripped in front of the audience, missed giving final instructions to his cast, and fumbled the ending. Yet the audience was moved to tears, teaching him a powerful lesson: "I'm just the vessel, He's the potter, I'm the clay." This perspective has defined his creative approach, whether writing comics or crafting "POV Theater" scripts that have been performed over 300 times by online voice actors.

Perhaps most touching is how Scott's creative work opened doors to meaningful relationships, including "adopting" a voice actress going through tremendous hardship. Their connection began through his scripts and blossomed into a father-daughter relationship that's brought healing to both their lives. Scott's story reminds us that creative gifts, when surrendered to purposes beyond ourselves, can impact lives in ways we'd never imagine.
