Coming in hot on our next SOT64 mix we present: Vudu

After establishing a strong presence within Otepoti’s underground, VUDU now resides in Aotearoa's bass capital, Otautahi, to further develop his production skills and embrace the local culture. Through running a weekly radio slot on RDU 98.5fm which promotes 100% Kiwi electronica (The Green Room), VUDU has a wide reach within the underground which shows through many of his selections. 
 
With multiple festival slots under his belt and having played alongside artists such as Alix Perez, Paige Julia, & EBB, VUDU will be digging through the archives & joining forces with the crew at Norman foreman to release a 60 minute mash up of rhythm & subwaves, ranging from 140-160 beats per minute. Expect variations of Dubstep & Halftime, seasoned with the odd breakbeat.

Ōtautahi based DJ and Producer under the alias “Cherry” explores and pushes boundaries within the soundscapes of heavy, bass-predominant & percussion focused Dubstep/140s. 

Emerging from Aotearoa’s underground bass scene, Cherry has established a name for herself credited to her unique and distinguishable take on mixing and works within the genre of Dubstep where she draws inspiration from an array of genres which can be heard in each and every one of her mixes that she carefully crafts.

Cherry joins Norman Foreman with an hour-long guest-mix of strictly 140s. Her unique take on mixing within the realm of Dubstep / 140s can be heard all throughout, showcasing the very best within the genre in addition to carefully 
placed Grime selections.

Ōtautahi's rising female powerhouse duo, "Seeing Doubles" have taken Christchurch city by storm!

From humble beginnings exploring electronic music at Mainz Institute Of Technology, Misc and Anima have been consistently filling dancefloors and pushing their signature dubstep sound at night clubs and festivals across NZ.  They have not only solidified their reputation as individual artists but have further developed their passion for hybrid 140 bpm mixes by adding their own independent flavours into their co operative duo sets.

These sets constitute “Seeing Doubles”. With Anima’s background of UKG, Bass, and Breaks, and Misc’s deep melodic dubstep and future garage origins, Seeing Doubles is a project for both to tap into the darker and more sinister realm of 140s.

Some of you may have witnessed them conjuring up sonic resonance at local venue Hide or at last years sold out Twisted Frequency!

Both talented selectors in their own rights, Seeing Doubles have quickly established their name as a heavy-hitting deadly duo..

Whether it’s drum & bass or any form of dubstep, Norman Foreman have remained open minded and all encompassing since it’s inception in 2021. However for their next project, the New Zealand label sets it’s sights on the roster’s 140 capabilities by producing a short compilation, consisting of four huge tracks by four emerging NZ talents. 

The track list begins with a rare dubstep piece from Phrase, one of the more established producers on the project. Known more for his deep and wavy dnb and invigorating bootlegs, Phrase brings his multifaceted sounds into the 140 sphere on ‘Levels‘, offering a thunderous dose of growling reese bass pressure that vividly sets the darker tone running throughout this project.
The lesser known but equally impressive Kakuza relishes in the cold and moody atmospheres of ‘Memory Extraction‘, before today’s premiere from Chunga replicates the darkness in an even beefier setting on ‘Survival Mode‘. Similar to Phrase, Chunga‘s dnb prowess shines in the 140 space, constantly adding texture and meat to the rattling bass bones and thumping bass tones. And finally we’re punched in the face by ‘Walker‘, a pure skank face production from Burningbush. It’s a classic gun finger slinger piece reminiscent of recent heaters like Hamdi‘s ‘Skanka‘ or Wraz‘s ‘Wraith‘, where only a filthy oscillating bassline and crashing percs are necessary for this rave friendly finale.

‘Radio Crimes’ is not only a true representation of the burgeoning scene that’s come alight on the islands of New Zealand, but also expresses the untapped potential of foreign-genre producers yet to express their 140 abilities. And it’s thanks to platforms like Norman Foreman who shows that ingenuity is out there and it only takes a little encouragement and awesome compilation projects like this for them to come out of the shadows.

Jake Smith, a.k.a Unwell, is a Jungle, Drum & Bass and Electronic music producer and DJ from Wellington, New Zealand.

Having released music on labels such as Overview Music and Borderline's Enrichment Audio; you'll find his sound is experimental yet distinctively organic, minimal and deep.

Unwell has worked alongside artists such as Hound, Young Ghost, MISSIN and Jay Knight; and has gained DJ and radie support from the likes of Mt Eden, Alix Perez, Samurai Breaks and Noisia.

His live performances can be described as a journey through the deeper sonics of jungle, glitchy beats and experimental bass music.
