I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of comic books and superheroes. But here’s the thing about most superheroes: they’re either born with a superpower—like Superman—or, they’re given one—like Spiderman getting bit by a spider. 

On the other hand, trainers and coaches—though heroes in their own right—aren’t born with or given these superpowers. While they can’t use heat vision or sling webs (yet), there are five skills coaches can develop into superpowers to turn them into the elite trainers and coaches they’re meant to be.

In this episode, I share five superpowers that can make you an elite trainer or coach. I discuss how empathy has effectively served me through my career as a coach and explain how being a better communicator helps your clients get better results.

5 Superpowers that Can Make You an Elite Trainer or Coach

Like many new coaches, Movement Lab Co-founder, Stefan Valdes, once copied more experienced coaches when training others—that is, until he entered physical therapy school. Stefan earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami, where he built and developed the critical thinking skills crucial to coaching clients and athletes. Jo Clubb on the Intersection of Science and Sports

When Brandon Smitley returned to Terre Haute in 2012 to work on his graduate degree at Indiana State University, he realized the lack of a facility where athletes and community members could go to achieve their desired results. 

Brandon, a competitive powerlifter and world-renowned strength coach, began a project to help improve the community’s health, fitness, and athletic performance.
