For our release number 073 we go hard and strong with the mysterious combo El Jóven Prisionero. They come back home, ten releases after their Sesiones Mercurio EP. The formula is again direct to the floor with no roundabouts, strong percussive elements and direct sonic aggression provided at a high tempo rate. Tactel opens fire with an enormous bass drum spiced with stereo panned high frequencies, shuffled hats add tension to the equation while micro drones and processed textures do the rest. A perfect shot to demolish some club roofs around the globe. Second bullet is Kinki, hypnosis is the key here, starting with the whole groove from bar one, then growing in intensity with different sound layers all served in a continuous and progressive arrangement. This one is for the mind and the body. Anti Tú combines scifi vibes with heavy duty drums in an elastic tool for the skilled mixers out there, setting the pace to the next exercise, La Raya where asymmetric Fm sequences bring the funk, again over a superb drum programming workout. Digital bonus is Sin el Groove, drastically reducing the BPM rate, using Fm synths again for the sequences, closing this aerobic session in an exhausted mood. This release is going to be a limited one with 200 numbered copies pressed on red vinyl before another standart edition with different artwork and classic black wax.

Vera and I met as residents at our beloved Club Basis and quickly found out Vera was moving in a similar direction as I did a few years ago. Since we both originally came from different backgrounds, the connection felt extra strong. This called for a B2B. The synergy was even more intense than we expected, turning into a three-hour journey of layering and going deeper and deeper, slowly building to a heavy and dark crescendo. I personally don't think I've ever built up a set this perfectly, and this can only really be attributed to the incredible chemistry we had here.

We’re so excited about the outcome, that we decided to share the set, and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did playing this.

SAMA B2B Vera Grace at BASIS, Utrecht [27.07.2024]

The master of dynamic modular synthesis returns strongly to Polegroup and with nothing less than a complete album under his belt. Alberto Pascual defines with his alter ego Ribé what contemporary techno should be, direct, precise, aggressive and mental all in one.   In these twelve cuts that make up his new album, the producer based in the mountains of Madrid puts into operation all his knowledge of electronic machinery to develop a discourse that bears his own signature and places him among the greatest exponents of peninsular techno at the moment.   Unlike previous works, this time we can perceive greater harmonic and emotional content in his productions, as can be heard in the first of the album´s songs, which also gives the title to the double vinyl. Here the floating synthetic strings are combined with rhythms borrowed from the motor city in an exquisite way.   But things quickly change context in the second of the exercises, La Rabia, whose title perfectly defines the sensations perceived when listening. Here the roots in the British tradition are clear but always under the personal prism that he always brings to his inimitable works.   The extreme sounds continue in Itinerario sin Click and when we are hot, we return to calm with El Sutil Arte, where crunchy textures and broken rhythms combine to create an experimental and corrosive theme, but relaxing at the same time.   Ellas pick up the pulse slowly, with precision scifi details to give way to El Sigilo, which definitely sounds like the best of the Birmingham sound. 100215 returns to outer space and galactic funk as a prelude to El Nuevo Mundo, a superlative exercise in emotional electronica.   Inercia returns to the frenetic dance and the machine slows down again in El Aire, dragging and dense the concept, flirting with the industrial sound of the pioneers of the genre.   The end of the sound journey is approaching with one of the most outstanding pieces of the album, Avenidas, which is a perfect minimalist tool for risky mixes.   We Finish the trip with El Entusiasmo, a perfect techno anthem with all the necessary ingredients to demolish any qualified dance floor.

"They were wild and crazy years." The Spanish techno icon discusses his early years in Madrid, running record labels and staying true to his sound for more than 30 years.

Spanish DJ and producer Oscar Mulero is a legend of underground techno. Since starting to play parties and make music more than 30 years ago, he's earned a reputation as an anti-conformist tastemaker who's adamantly stuck to his guns. While his trajectory began with Madrid's goth and punk clubs in the '90s, he eventually found techno in the early '00s and started two labels, PoleGroup and Warm Up, as homes for the hypnotic, spaced-out sound that's become his signature. 

In this RA Exchange, Mulero reflects on the early days of the Spanish techno scene and how it's evolved, as well as his own roots and influences. Today, the artist is as active as he's ever been, he discusses how he's maintained longevity as an artist in the face of changing trend, as well as his best practices for making music at home and on the road. Nick Bowman is a DJ, Producer and Radio Host from England. He has played several times at Ministry of Sound (CLR / The Gallery / Saturday Sessions / Club Shelter), Pacha London, Egg, Basing House, Scala, and River Thames boat parties where his underground, bass driven techno, minimal and tech house beats tore up the dance floors of England’s capital city. He has played extensively in Colombia and also played in Germany and Italy.
Nick had already played his first gig at Ministry of Sound when he won the globally respected and renowned DJ mix competition, IDJ Magazine’s (International DJ Magazine) prestigious “Raw Talent Competition”. Nick’s winning mix received amazing reviews from some of the world’s top DJ’s, including Jody Wisternoff, Riva Starr and Deepgroove.
He hosts one of the most respected underground techno radio shows around, The Future Underground Show. The show can now be heard on Digitally Imported's Techno Channel every third Friday of the month at www.di.fm/techno and was previously on Future Radio - www.futureradio.co.uk -107.8 FM.
