Winter Sun was inspired by the haiku by Murakami Kijo

Murakami Kijo was a contemporary of Masaoka Shiki. Born into a samurai family in a time of social transformation in Japan, Kijo lost most of his hearing at the age of 18, which compromised his studies and professional career.

Widowed young and struggling financially throughout his life, Kijo worked as a scribe to sustain his family. Eventually, he started being regularly featured in the Hototogisu magazine (curated by Kyoshi at the time) and became a distinguished haikuist.

Winter Sun was written for Flute, Clarinet, Horn, Trombone, Cymbals, Gong, Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass.

Marco is the creator of Naviar Records.  In his words, "Those were my first days travelling alone in Japan without Gosia and Zoe, so I wrote it thinking about the perception of time, and how much I missed them."

A Shiver, Endless was written for Trumpet, Bass Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Vibraphone, Cymbals, Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass.

Lyrics:

The first verse opens with the protagonist waking up feeling down and out. They drag themselves out of bed and face the day, but everything seems to be going wrong. They feel lost and alone, and they can't seem to shake the feeling of blue.

The chorus is a simple yet powerful declaration of the protagonist's determination to overcome their blues. They sing that they're going to keep on fighting, even when things are tough.

"Momma" had a sweet portion with a shout-out to Bill Wither's Ain't No Sunshine, another inspiration herein . . .

Continuing with an even more paired-down sound, slower tempo, simmers strong throughout . . .
