We are living in a time of contradictions.

For the last forty years, our politics and media have been dominated by neoliberal, right-wing voices - yet pundits insist that the UK is dominated by a woke, left-wing elite.

Our politicians claim to champion the voices of the forgotten working class - yet working-class people are not seeing better wages, housing or healthcare.

And the majority of people in this country are being screwed by the economic system - yet for some reason we seem unable to secure a better future for ourselves.

So where did it all go wrong? Are we really ruled over by a censorious woke mob? Or is it all a convenient story, to distract us from the real villains?

Ayeisha Thomas-Smith is joined by Ash Sarkar, journalist and author of Minority Rule: Adventures in the Culture War.

Music is not just an art form for me—it's a lifeline, a form of therapy that sees me through the highs and lows of life. Each track I create is a piece of my soul, translated into sound. It's in the depths of melodies and rhythms that I find solace, pouring my emotions and experiences into each note as a way to heal and understand myself better. My music is a diary of my journey, a reflection of the inner workings of my mind and heart. When you notice an influx of new tracks, it's a signal that I'm navigating through tougher times, seeking refuge and expression through my music. This direct channel from my innermost thoughts to your ears is what makes my music raw, real, and resonant. So, as you listen, know that you're not just experiencing a song, but a chapter of my life, a moment of catharsis, and a piece of my path to healing. My hope is that it may offer you the same comfort and escape it provides me.

'Stranger' is a sound art project by UK-based artist, composer and musician Matthew Ward.

'Stranger' merges sound art, social documentary and compositions to create soundscapes and audio essays that reflect the world today and shape new realities. These pieces use interviews and street recordings that have been collected across the UK and Europe over the past two years with chance encounters.

The project synthesises a wide-range of fields including social documentary, musique concrète, street photography, genre art, Dada, surveillance and audio description.

The album 'Stranger' was released on 22nd March 2024.
