BASS FORWARD THE REVOLUTION CAST #15 - Scary Woods

For the fifteenth episode of our podcast we are excited to present the powerful sound of "Scary Woods" (@scarywoods), a duo formed by two of our resident DJs!

"Scary Woods" is an electronic-experimental producer and DJ duo from Hamburg that has focused on drum and bass. This project, consisting of "Violet Core" (@violetcore) and "Dr Woe" (@dr-woe), exists since 2014 and brings conscious drum and bass and destroyer basslines on display.

The duo not only produces drum and bass but also downtempo tracks. Their deput EP "Pulse" was released in Septemer 2019 on "Insomnius Music" (@insomnius-music) and reflects the different facets of their musical influences and abilities. Their latest single "Toxic Planet/Corruption" equally mirrors the diversity of the project, ranging from halftime to hard-hitting technoid drum and bass.

In their sets, "Scary Woods" combine own productions and unreleased "Insomnius Music" tunes, as well as the best that dark & heavy drum and bass has to offer.

Her DJ sets got an unique and barnstorming vibe, including harder, classical and deeper styles, straight from the darkside of Drum & Bass. Even genre-spanning moments of surprise should not be missed. Not only as one half of the producer duo 'Scary Woods', she has a steadily growing repertoire of her own tunes. VIOLET CORE stands behind the decks since 2014, but being a music enthusiast since infancy and active in various band projects since her teens. Whether at the turntables, in the studio, at the mic or on the guitar: she knows how to convince with her creative output. She has been organizing and managing events since 2005, studied audio engineering and has now been working in various sectors of the music industry for over 15 years: She is a self- made person.

VIOLET's DJ sets got a unique and barnstorming vibe, including harder, classic and deeper styles, straight from the darkside of drum & bass. Even genre-spanning moments of surprise should not be missed. As a producer, she is active as one half of SCARY WOODS, among others, and has a constantly growing repertoire of her own tracks. She recorded her vocals for the track ‘Consciousness’, a collaboration with BONS that was released on DNB DATABASE. She also releases her productions as SCARY WOODS on her label INSOMNIUS MUSIC and is part of the Wuestensturm remix EP by GIANA BROTHERZ on BASSWERK alongside THE GREEN MAN, ZARDONIC and ZOMBIE CATS. VIOLET has shared the stage with Artists like; CAUSE4CONCERN, CURRENT VALUE, DJ HIDDEN, FORBIDDEN SOCIETY, SKYNET and ZOMBIE CATS.

As a booker and promoter VIOLET CORE provides Hamburg's drum & bass scene with some of the most wanted artists from the darkside sector. In 2011 she has founded BASS FORWARD THE REVOLUTION and even brought the worldwide celebrated THERAPY SESSIONS to Hamburg. But only promoting the bigger names is not enough for her: Always looking for new talents, she also gives unknown artists a chance to demonstrate their skills at her events. In order to create a platform for herself and her network's producers, she co-founded the drum and bass label INSOMNIUS MUSIC.

Founded in 2011, the Hamburg based Bass Forward The Revolution Crew has established itself as an integral part of the North German drum and bass scene. With bookings e.g. Audio, Cause4Concern, Counterstrike, DJ Hidden, Forbidden Society, Skynet and Zombie Cats, the focus is on the dark and forward pushing sound. Bass Forward The Revolution is everything except a still life and has already enriched diverse places musically (e.g. Rote Flora, Hafenklang, Wutzrock Festival, MS Stubnitz, Gängeviertel,  Fundbuero, ).
In addition to the worldwide celebrated Therapy Sessions and one decade dark nights with varied bookings, a big passion is the basis for this project, which has meanwhile developed into a community of its own.

With their 3 residents; Dr Woe, Violet Core and Rumo, the four-person crew not only has their own style regarding the genre, but forms also an important cornerstone for the dark drum and bass scene in Hamburg and in the north. Bass Forward The Revolution is not just about rave, it's also about a message: decidedly antiracist and pro positive vibes. Every guest should feel comfortable at their events, but also adhere to certain basics so that everyone experience a great night in a pleasant atmosphere.

With BFTR TV, their stream which has been taking place since 2018 and the monthly podcast that started in July 2020, the crew audiovisually complements the online range for dark, heavy & hard drum & bass - Wild in the underground and independent.
