She was a corporate girl for a super, super long time as an accountant who did all the math, all the numbers — even though she hated it. Meet Brandy Blackford who jumped into a creative business of wedding planning out of corporate life. She took her talents into being a small business owner living her dreams. She’s a wife, mom and genuinely one who looks out for others every day. She follows the trails for weddings and couples to take ideas and thoughts with the money to make it all work together and give someone a flawless event. She is able to see the big picture using all the little pieces and create memories.

We talk about the details of her industry, the changes of what is happening in choices of such a big event and how couples are presenting their wedding dreams and how it all comes together.

Brandy is a firm believer in the rising tide philosophy of community over competition, and a rising tide raises all boats. There are more people getting married than there are event industry professionals. “We can't do everything that there is to do. We cannot take on every couple that is getting married even if they could afford us or wanted us. And we all approach our couples and our clients and our philosophy differently,” says Brandy and that means it’s a chance to become who you want to represent which is a thread throughout the conversation.

We talk about self worth and that you have to feel inside that you are worth something other than a dollar amount, but she’s happy to help anybody calculate how much they should be charging for their service because it truly is just math, and her thought is that you just need to sit there and plug some numbers into a spreadsheet, and it'll tell you how much you should charge.

Работата ми се базира на класически, красив и непреходен дизайн, с мисъл за околната среда, който подчертава женската красота", категорична е българската дизайнерка Невена Николова. От първата булчинска рокля, която изработва за себе си преди повече от 20 години, до този момент отличителният й подход в дизайна на дрехите е използването на висококачествени материали и фокус върху дантелата.

За появата на официални събития на стила й се доверяват редица популярни личности, сред които Никол Шерцингер, актрисата Лиз Хърли и моделът Ел Макферсън. Освен изработването на красиви рокли през цялата си кариера дизайнерката Невена Николова е поддръжник на каузата за намаляване на свръхпроизводството чрез преправянето и преизползването на дрехи.

Невена Николова е петият гост във втория сезон на видеокаста "Мода с бъдеще" - един проект за устойчива мода на Storio и Remix. На живо от студиото разговаряме с нея за работата в ателиетата й в София и Лондон, където се стреми да използва всеки остатъчен текстилен материал за направата на нова дреха или освежаването на такива от отминали колекции. "Ние не хвърляме нищо и уважаваме всяка материя. Висококачествените материали са непреходни във времето и могат винаги да се използват, без значение от сезонност, тенденции, стил", казва още Николова.

След като заминава за Лондон през 2012 г., за да отвори ателие там, българската дизайнерка става лице на собствените си модели дрехи. Тя започва да смесва официален и спортен стил, преплетени през дантелата, и така привлича вниманието на хората. "Няколко години по-късно започнах да работя по колекция, наречена "Непреходна". Дрехите от нея обслужват различни поводи, различни форми на тялото и сезони и могат да се носят както за официален повод, така и със спортни обувки", разказва Невена Николова.

Колекцията е част от каузата й за устойчива мода. Българската дизайнерка вярва, че целият процес по избор на материали, изработка на дрехата и дълготрайното й носене след това, са част от борбата за опазване на околната среда. "Планетата ни ще се самовзриви, ако не вземем мерки. Текстилният бранш е по-голям замърсител от транспортната индустрия", казва още тя и допълва, че би искала да види повече активизъм в тази посока и от страна на популярните личности, които да се застъпят за каузата.

Затова тя си представя бъдещето на модата да се базира на творчество, хуманност, занаятчийство, с по-малко, но качествено потребление. "Надявам се качеството да надделее над количеството в модата", категорична е дизайнерката.
