Meaning of the song:
Everyone does things to get love, attention and appreciation from "others", but no one knows if this echo is real. 
This is the pathological mainspring of a perpetual cycle in which one is trained to do things to please "others" and to disregard one's self.
No human being has an innate self, which would come to unfold by its own strength. (Goethe's, Entelechy) 
At some point, however, it inevitably comes to a life balance in which one asks oneself;
Who are you (I) actually? Especially when the pride, the recognition and the appreciation of "the others" is missing. Everybody places at this point of his life, before a self-reflection, at which the own being understood or being allowed to be oneself, break out inexorably. 
This can be a "liberation" or end in mental illness.
The clown, who makes himself a clown in front of "the others", is in my song a "shrill form of expression", the make-up is real but not the "laughter" underneath.
