as we make our way through this little life, it’s never been more important to check in on  yourself and the homies around us. for that very reason we wanted to create a digital destination, a-one-stop-shop of ambient soundscapes to help find stillness, cultivate growth and realign with what it means to be alive.

so this first mix is dedicated to being here, being human and being together.

Good day my sweet sweet cherry pie !

What an honour it is to share this mix by Prianka aka Scalymoth, a Meanjin based dj, producer & homie. 
Pri is an amoeba who has the power to go in any direction, a beautiful soul whose love for what she does radiates through every note, beat & transition. 
This soft collection of dream-like notes Pri has put together is like an open arms hug from the one you love, a gentle pat on the back and a juicy smooch on the cheek. 
 
Here's a lil note from Prianka;
“For those of you who know me, I don't sit still very often or allow myself to get lost in softer sounds. This mix is an exploration of my softer side, and in parts you can hear where I've become impatient and where I tried to rein my impatience in. I really enjoyed making this mix, but it was difficult for me to get to the right mental state to sit down and lose myself for an hour. It’s a reminder to you and me to spend time just listening and feeling, instead of doing with an outcome in mind.
 
To pull myself back into a gentle state, I added the calls of 3 birds from Kerala, India - the Black Drongo, Great Hornbill and Indian Peafowl. My dad instilled a healthy appreciation of wildlife and I'm glad I got to share that a little.”
 
We've contacted your local GP and they've prescribed this mix, a comfortable place to lay and maybe a nice tea, if you like tea of course. 
So please take some time and a few deep breaths. Let yourself get lost in thought but then bring yourself back to the bird calls. Make note of how you’re feeling, allow yourself to feel it and remember to be kind to yourself.

We’re excited to introduce @Squidgenini, also known as Bella. Bella is not only an incredibly talented DJ & a passionate producer, but she is most importantly a literal angel disguised in human flesh.

With vocals and melodies that go down like milk and honey, Bella has certainly shifted our gears and set our coordinates for the promised land. This mix is no exception, it hits hard & in all the right spots.

When one looks towards Natural Selection (also know as Taylor), one can only be entranced by her hard work & dedication. An advocate for sustainable cultures, a gifted selector & true gem of a human being. 

She has created such a mix that reeks of passion and understanding. Meticulously pieced together & consistently evolving whilst the narrative remains strong. The perfect blend of escapism and imagination, an audible safe haven, a place to sit and turn your gaze to the wonders of this world. 

Taylors notes // “The goal in mind is to forget you're listening to the mix - while flickers of shining sounds and deep textures keeps you grounded enough to not completely float away. A blissful hour and a half of sonic frequencies to wash your dog to, pot a plant or do some gardening, painting or drawing ~ something in mind for the busy hands.”

TC004 // natural selection

This year, be it manic and beautiful, is coming to a rapid close. Here is our final offering to you. A parting gift, a final kiss on the cheek, one last pat on the back, a long winded arms wide open, heartbeat to heartbeat hug.

This journey into gentle reflection comes courtesy of Quincy Raw. Zach is a steaming pile of raw Meanjin talent, brains and warmth. He spreads his genius throughout many audible aspects; from a gifted selector, producer, dance floor director and part creator of local label @pocketmoth . It’s quite evident that Zach puts in nothing but hard work and devotion into all that he does and the community that surrounds. 

Notes from Zach:
Sounds of inner city pressure met with thoughts of outer city space. confusion, contentment, alone-ness, tension, love, togetherness, understanding. This is my hug.

This recording was produced on the land of the Jagera and Turrbal people. I acknowledge and reflect upon the deep connection to land and spirit upheld by past, present and future generations of Aboriginal and Torres Straight people.

good grief, we’ve missed you but god it’s good to be back and with an  exceptional 120 minute (and 5 second) offering full of warmth.

It's our privilege to introduce a true blessing, master of the sonic waves and king of our hearts - Ben Chiu. Benny has his fingers in all the best pies (in our humble opinion). One of the founding fathers of the ever bumpin A Love Supreme & 199A, he has been a pillar in Meanjin for many years. Helping mould and nurture the groove-tastic & community-centric scene that his city so beautifully holds. Listen, we love him, what more can we say?  

In this mix, Benny has proven himself to know a thing or two about not only chilling, but also relaxing. This mix is a mosaic of thought-out notes and grooves, layered with an incredible amount of detail. So please, take a few deep breaths before pressing play, allow the smooth jazz and gentle harmonies to lull you into a state of appreciation. it’s been a minute but once we caught wind of Aaliyah Salem (@aaliyahsalem ), we knew our hiatus had to end. 

the thing to know about Aaliyah is that, well, she is that girl.
Aaliyah has a rare gift for creating a space where music and movement align, ever evolving and pushing the listener towards something far greater than themselves — this mix is no exception — transformation lays thick in the air, hitting hard in all the right spots.
