Enigmatic singer-songwriter-producer Jorgie graces the universe with her debut LP; ten tracks of cosmic bliss,
inspired not only by her fondness of the golden years of Trip-hop and Eletronica, but also her connection with
mother nature and the cosmos, fittingly titled Celestial.
Jorgie grew up on a musical diet of Massive Attack, Morcheeba, et al, and this is clearly displayed in her first outing
as an artist. What is unique about Jorgie, is that she wrote, sang, and produced all of the songs featured on
Celestial, and upon listening, we think you’ll agree, that’s pretty damn impressive. She describes the album as a
three-year time-capsule that defines the early stages of her music career, a period of time where she has
experienced substantial growth and learned a lot about herself as an artist.
Celestial begins with its title-track, an introduction to Jorgie’s mastery that is cinematic in nature, luring the listener
in with an intriguing string chord progression laid over a distorted synth that culminate to introduce Jorgie’s vocal
prowess. This is the perfect opener for the album, and the remaining tracks don’t disappoint. Colours, Paddys and
Mirrors lend subtle influence from acid, house and breakbeat genres, respectively and respectfully. Whilst Soul
Moon, What Is and Taboo take us on a deeper excursion. Chris Dawkins features on the reggae-tinged I Dare You,
adding another dimension to the album, and Love Knows and Playing On My Mind have a more original Trip-hop
feel, albeit with Jorgie’s unique handiwork on show.
With Jorgie’s debut album we hope the listener is immersed in the young artist’s unique brand of electronic music,
a brand she will continue to develop and perfect, with plans for a live show in the works, and fresh music due to
appear on the horizon in the coming months...
