Another latched-chord generative patch.   osc 1 is wavetable using 100 random Adventure Kid waveforms, osc 2 is wavetable using 40 random "classic" waveforms, osc 3 is a 2-octave down sub using 200 random Adventure Kid waveforms.  Independent svf LPF filters and digital former as comb+ filter. Has 29 rows of modulation using 5 synced s&h LFOs, a synced square LFO and a couple of looped free envelopes - all being used in source+controller combinations against wavetable position, filter cutoff, LFO speeds etc. Komplex Modulator is used to provide occassional pitch changes for oscs 1+2.  Effects are "crunch" drive(wavefolding), chorus, delay and reverb.  Bass boost is off. Recorded from Iridium - no additional processing. (patch ref: wt amb kitchen sink).

While at its core it is essentially accessible, below the surface each track was approached in a different way leading to very different outcomes.   Many of the tracks relate directly to contemporary events and ideas.  The result is snapshot of our time, peppered with distorted visions of the past and future.

DiN label boss Ian Boddy follows up his 2020 studio release “Axiom” (DiN64) with another vinyl album length slice of vintage electronic music synth heritage. Whilst there are many focusing in on the world of possibilities of modular synths to the detriment of form and composition Boddy uses his 40 plus years of experience to create six succinct slices of analogue warmth and emotion. 

The title track which opens procedures is a case in point. Boddy crams into its seven minutes more drama than many would manage in a side length track. Soft textural chords soon give way to a pulsing arpeggiator playing from his venerable Roland System 100-M modular. Just when the piece seems to be settling into a cyclical groove a series of transpositions move the harmonic interest along before a climax of percussion and synth textures soar toward a stunning crescendo. 

The next piece, “Messiaen M31”, in contrast is a calm, floating track with an unusual harmonic chord progression based on Olivier Messiaen’s music theory with a beautiful Ondes Martenot style solo line. “Rings” features layers of sequencers and arpeggios that twist and turn through various key changes toward another stunning climax.

“Teutonium” is pure Berlin School with a thundering Moog bass line interspersed with edgy, glitchy interjections before subsiding to the calm, gentle fluctuations of “Flow”.

Finally “Silver Surfer” is a slice of Synthwave fun featuring the crisp tones of the 100-M set against a syncopated bass line and a beautiful Ondes Martenot duet over a transposing sequencer line.  

“Coil” will be released on both CD digipak as well as a limited edition 180g vinyl edition.

I have a folder on a hard-drive, away from the other r.m.i. stuff, where I keep things I record while testing new sequencer techniques or patches or whatever, or just mucking about. this is one such, from january 2011, & recorded using nothing but the moogs I had here at the time. probably I'd just been to see mark or something, & so it got this title. the 'vangelis' sweeps were my other minimoog, the one that had keys, which used to do that on its own until kent spong fixed it.

The TC Electronic June-60 chorus effect doesn't work so well with a keyboard. And it certainly doesn't sound like the chorus in a Juno-60. So I set to work on modifying it to make it more like the original Roland synthesiser's chorus. I ended up making some significant changes and additions to the pedal.

This sound set features a basic single oscillator sawtooth pad from a Waldorf Blofeld. Initially you can hear the pad dry, and then I engage the modified pedal in mode II to give a nice stereo chorus effect.
