Young Techno upstarts Clouds debut their hard an aggressive sound on Soma with the ‘Complete Control’ EP. 2013 has been a fast paced year for the two Scottish natives that has seen them release their debut album on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings plus a host of top quality singles to critical acclaim. Their razor sharp production that fuses elements of Techno, Rave and UK Bass music has garnered attention from many of electronic music’s biggest names. Their first Soma EP displays maturity in style as they unleash 3 ferocious Techno weapons.

‘Complete Control’ tears the EP open. A chopped and noisy beat is bent round slashing, white noise covered drums setting the tone for this beastly release. A hint of restraint is brought about however as a droning vocal sample pulses from beyond allowing a momentary rest bite from the upcoming onslaught of machinegun snare patterns and intense drum workouts. 

 3Talisman-Class Destroyer does exactly what it says on the tin. A typically powerful Clouds kick sounds off while clanking, industrial percussion keep the rhythm perfectly. Another well-used vocal cut adds to the groove and the percussion begins to step a notch with hollow drums going into full attack mode.  

39.844 g_mol polishes of the EP in even more devastating fashion. Sent straight from the darkness, this track bursts into our reality with deadly force. Driving sub bass, stuttered rhythms and distorted percussion, typical of Clouds is all there. 

Clouds are definitely making their mark on the current Techno scene with their blistering tunes that pull no punches. This dynamic duo are a welcome addition to the wealth of Scottish Techno exports.

Techno legend Marco Bailey debuts on Amazing Records with an incendiary track and an uncompromising remix along with fellow Belgian superstar Redhead. The long-time veteran shows here his straightforward talent and his unique production skills: his well-documented release list goes back to the mid-nineties, spanning almost two decades of underground music, and has brought him to play at some of the most acclaimed festivals and parties worldwide such as Tomorrowland, Time Warp, Awakenings and I Love Techno. His guest appearances at Ibiza&#8217;s Space have become a staple in the white island&#8217;s scene, and his dj performances are in steady demand. Label owners MiniCoolBoyz team up with Italian sensations NHB for their own take on Bailey&#8217;s tune, and the VA also features a special contribution by Milan&#8217;s badass Giorgio Rusconi. &#8220;Stir It Up&#8221; opens with a vibrating percussive groove and a crescendo of filtered vocals that explode into a bass driven relentless swinging rhythm, while the remix is a darker rework with a mammoth chugging kick drum and hypnotic twitching synth stabs which give out a sinister and creepy vibe. &#8220;Pulsar&#8221;&#8216;s atmospheric techno and rollickin bounce lead through a spaced out journey, whereas Bailey and Redhead&#8217;s remix is upbeat and filled with galloping sounds and big analog pulses. Pure old school warehouse feeling.

Marco Bailey strikes back on MB Elektronics with an absolutely massive release. &#8216;The Black Widow&#8217; is a pure class from start to finish. Every detail is lovingly crafted from techno kicks to a devastating bassline that enter exactly the right moment. This production it feels like you could dance to it forever. Next on is an edit mix. This production is a bouncy techno number, driven by a chicaning bassline and some irresistible effects. Brutal and brilliant, the whole release is simply an essential addition to your box. As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!

Marco Bailey whips up a one-tracker for his own MB Elektronics, raising the Techno bar once again.

Building carefully from the get-go, "Greedy Convention" is dipped in atmospherics with its spoken-word vocal, ghostly effects and pulsing subs.

A mutating synth riff creeps into the track, while hectic rises make their appearance and add more tension to the ride. Ultimately, we are dealing with a jacking Techno powerhouse as a testament to Marco Bailey's seasoned skills.

‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.

Stephan Bodzin: a classically trained musician, vastly experienced producer and master of melody. He has built a reputation through countless releases under many aliases, and through his dramatic and dynamic live set capturing the hearts of fans worldwide. For Afterlife, Bodzin bottles the infectious energy of these shows into two epic, colourful landscapes of sound, “Strand” and “Catamaran”.

Following his first contribution to the label in September - a mesmerising remix of Tale Of Us & Vaal’s ‘Monument’ - “Strand” elevates this fitting relationship to the next level. The release contains a true anthem from Bodzin’s and Tale Of Us’ sets in ‘Strand’ and a more restrained effort in ‘Catamaran’. Both dream-like compositions are unmistakably Bodzin, taking the listener on a journey and brimming with the synth wizardry he is best known for.
