Fresh and exclusive from Butch's Watergate mix is a massive cut with his partner in crime, Hohberg titled The Spirit. Add a remix from the Swiss duo Adriatique and a tune from Butch flying solo and you have "Songs About Unconsciousness".

With "The Spirit", Butch and Hohberg create a vivid and euphoric tour of emotions with a hypnotic looping lead, lush pads and a pulsating, relentless groove. It's a serious burner that makes you want to close your eyes and get lost in another world. 

In a perfect contrast yet staying true to the original, Adriatique deliver a stunning remix. Their take is a deeper, more melodic vibe, ripe with warm sub bass and rich organic drums perfect for a late night or early morning excursions.

To round up the EP is Shahrzād. It's an acid trip laced with spaced out washes of Arabian winds, voices from a dream and infectious loops of percussion. In all "Songs About Unconsciousness" is a beautifully crafted bundle from the master of dance floor psychedelia, Butch.

Ruede Hagelstein and Watergate go hand in hand. Not only is Ruede one of the longest running residents at the club, but he's also the man behind some of the label's most acclaimed music and the curator responsible for lucky number 13 in the illustrious Watergate mix series. With this, it seemed obvious to put Ruede up to his next task: an album. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we bring you the first LP for both, Ruede and Watergate Records, Apophenia. 

Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data, and for Ruede, this is the perfect interpretation to describe his writing process, in which ideas appear from the empty, chaotic darkness. A random chord progression or percussion arrangement opens the door to the imagination where structures appear and begin to take shape. Unlike most of his previous work, Apophenia is not strictly attached to the dance floor, but created to fit just as seamless while listening at home as it is in the club. For over a year, Ruede collected ideas and visualized his plan. It was important not to mimic his earlier work, but to focus on a certain sound. While staying minimalistic yet extremely organic and melodic he has created a timeless long player.

While the LP spans a range of emotions, it is always grounded in Ruede's unparalleled, singular sound. Pair that with some notable features from artists like PillowTalk, Hollis P. Monroe & Overnite, Justin Evans and C.A.R. and you have a plethora of dazzling music. With tracks like "Moon Rabbit", "Life Is A Beach" and "Found A Place" Ruede displays the sound of a night at the club while "Already Undone feat. Pillowtalk" and "Pareidolia" take rides through the deeper, emotional spaces. In the end, "Apophenia" is the perfect display of not just Ruede's artistry, but Watergate's musical vision, which together, create an illustrious and undeniable entity.

Sideways - Retraced EP will be released on Watergate Records on April 27th.

For our next release we have called upon Sideways. Two artists who’s relationship with Watergate dates back to the clubs beginning nearly twelve years ago. It was in the early 90’s when Marcus Kaye and Lee Ching worked at two of the most influential record shops in the UK resulting in a mutual friendship born out of an eternal hunt for new and exciting music. Soon both were at the forefront of a progressive Drum and Bass movement under their Marcus Intalex and Dj Lee monikers performing on a global scale and contributing some of the most influential music of the genre but never actually collaborating. As Kaye broadened his horizons creating the Trevino alias to critical acclaim and Ching
went the mundane route of 9 to 5 normality the duo's still weekly conversations about the nuances of modern house and techno turned into Sideways. Finally, after more than a decade, the two have joined forces to bring us the truly unique and exciting EP, "Retraced".

Although all the tracks on "Retraced" are rooted heavily in a techno aesthetic, they all possess parts spanning across a wide range of genres from drum and bass to deep and soulful house. With the title track "Retraced" the two take a euphoric journey laced with rich strings laid over a hefty bassline while "Minor Difference" holds no punches and goes straight for the four to the floor approach ripe for the strobe lights on a crowded, dark dance floor. The final cut on the EP is "PJ's Groove" and of all the three, it's the throwback. With crisp open hi hats, warm organ stabs and big washed out pads it feels like a trip down memory lane, yet with an updated, modern twist. After more than a decade in the making, we think it's the perfect collaboration for us at Watergate and, we think you will feel the same.

2015 saw Stephan Bodzin release his second full length, “Powers of Ten”, as well as a new single on DJ Tennis’ and Tale of Us’ taste making label Life and Death. The album is another magical piece of work that focuses on melody and rhythm, on fat bass and vivid sound design and is a truly captivating journey through the mind, music, body and soul of one of dance music’s truly modern greats. After its release, a great team of modern music makers was enlisted to remix tracks from it: Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan-Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more all contributed to what is an essential collection. With a remix of ‘Sleepless’, a Pan-Pot track from their latest album, Stephan Bodzin closed the latest chapter of 2015 in what has been an exhilarating musical journey in his capable and creative hands.

‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.

Just in time for summer, and another huge season of gigs across the world, Maceo Plex returns to his own Ellum Audio with a sure to be huge new single.

This is Maceo’s first outing since his excellent Mutant Robotics release in 2018, but in the months since he has continued to be a leading light in the global house and techno scene. A spellbinding performer who takes the crowd into another dimension, the Spanish based American is just as adventurous in the studio and once again casts another magical spell with this new EP.

‘When The Lights Are Out’ is a ready-made anthem that serves up a seven- minute techno trip of the highest order. It is deep and masterfully melodic, of course, with slick drums setting an inviting mid-tempo pace and the melancholic chords adding lasting emotion to the groove. A heartfelt female vocal is the centrepiece that will get hands in the air this summer and ensure this record stays firmly lodges in record boxes worldwide.

Next to an instrumental, there is a Late Night Mix that is more driving and electrifying, with glossy synths shining bright in the expansive skies above the drums.

This is the sound of a melodic techno master at work and is another landmark release for both artist and label.
