Given the recent popularity of sea shanties, I thought I’d put some lyrics to a classic shanty progression. The story is about my father George Hoffman’s charter boat, the Sea Lion, which sailed out of the Manasquan Inlet at the Jersey Shore to dive the hundreds of shipwrecks off the NJ coast between the New York and Philadelphia harbors. My dad was a tough but friendly captain — the divers dubbed him Captain Nice. At the end of each charter, once back at the dock, he would famously say, “Another lucky trip!”
