It is true that music knows no bounds and Fadi Mohem is a true testament to this fact. Wise beyond his relatively young years and he is already in with the bricks with the Berlin techno elite. His live sets and releases for Ben Klock and his Klockworks more than warrant his inclusion on the big stages that Ben’s Photon events command.

Don’t let Fadi’s unassuming façade fool you, he can smash it with the best of them. With a clutch of releases for German techno stalwarts Modeselektor’s Seilscheibenpfeiler imprint is already a seasoned artist. Equally at home programming drum machines and synths in his ever-evolving live sets as he is behind a set of decks this young gun is set to rise and rise. Ahead of him dropping his red-hot mix for us we caught up Fadi for a deep dive discussion...

For this weeks podcast we’ve invited the Swedish old school techno legend Samuel L Session. Samuel has been active since the late 90’s and has since then founded the labels Solid Beat Records, Cycle, SLS and Klap Klap, on which he released numerous of timeless old school tracks including collaborations with such as Oliver Ho, Heiko Laux, Slam, Ben Sims and Deetron, to name a few. The trademark-sound of Samuel really has this really groovy style of African-Tribal techno, which is as relevant at this moment as it used to be back in the days. 

For FrenzyPodcast #091 Samuel took a dive into his archives, as the set was recorded at Flexible in 2012. The mix itself contains a lot funk and groove, but still has his threatening old school SLS vibe with some powerful percussions, shakers and drum influenced tracks. After some enervating weeks, it's now time for something delightful. We welcome the amazing Herrensauna founder for late July's podcast: CEM (@cemdukkha) with a groovy, penetrating, yet smooth mix.

CEM's unique brand of emotive hysteria was forged in Herrensauna's (@herrensauna) hedonistic Berlin furnace in the last few years and as one of the party's two core members, he has been at the heart of the operations since its inception. With the party attracting more and more attention for its critical contribution to Berlin's queer community, as well as their raw italo-metal aesthetic, the opportunity came to move into Tresor (@tresorberlin), where it has cemented its place as a unique addition to Berlin's nocturnal topography. CEM's role in all this is twofold—firstly, as curator of the party's unique mix of frenetic DJs and industrial-edged live performances; and secondly, as one of the resident DJs. The sheer pace of Herrensauna's preferred grade of techno is offset by his enigmatic presence and selection. It's a crucial edge of the party, and it's rightfully brought CEM to the world's attention.

Up next in the series is another member of the talented HAYES crew from Portugal: CRAVO. Due to infectious distinct high tempo groove with dissonant synth sequences, he quickly rose as one of the true pushers of the new wave of groovy techno. This resulted in various releases: TWR72's OOM Records, Fixon's ANAOH and his biggest release to date on the mighty Klockworks together with VIL. The next hour is the definition of the CRAVO sound, so get ready to sweat!

Having debuted in the realm of techno music around the same time we did, Freddy naturally bears a similar genotype to that of RYC’s. Traveling back and forth the many roots and shoots of electronic music, his set is an ode to the reigning diversity that binds us as a scene. From trippy grooves set to beam you up to unknown dimensions to full-fledged hard-hitting tools, via unexpected detours across further atmospheric sonics, Freddy has us hanging to each bar’s end like a crime novel head eagerly anticipating his favourite author’s next plot twist.

We are proud to present you one of Tel Aviv's key players, a man who has contributed to the city's boiling techno scene not only musically, but also through his initiative and vision of how nightlife could look. Yonti focuses on atmospheric, dark, rolling beats that lull you in and dont let go until your brain is sufficiently melted and your thirst for rhythm has been satisfied. Its this consistency in energy and precision in sound that have made Yonti a mainstay in the city, playing for crowds weekly in all of the city's club locations. Former resident of the queer party series PAG TLV, Yonti has now entered into a residency at arguably the most sought-after location the city has to offer: The Block Tel Aviv. His final contribution to the city's scene lies in the founding of his own clubs "Alphabet Club" and - more recently - "Phi Garden". Enjoy this fine selection of mechanical funk.

Talismann | Awakenings Easter festival 2022

Next up is a very special mix from Guy Blanken’s darker techno alias, Talismann. As the son of clubber parents, he’s been working hard to honour his creative legacy under a triad of disparate pseudonyms. Makam, Slagmann, Talismann: the latter manifestation a ferocious take on his house-centred persona, under the cover of which he calls De School and Dekmantel home and explores the more uncompromising side of his nature. For anyone curious, the 29th July sees his latest work (Percussion Part 3) immortalised in wax and released via his self-titled imprint. In the meantime though, this Podcast instalment should sate that curiosity with a preview of some of his latest tracks. Bassiani Podcast 132 is packed with menacing sounds and hyperactive drum arrangements; thunderous, intensifying, peak-time beats for the most vehement techno heads.

Freddy K - Club Quarantäne 27.06.2020

Talismann (@talismannrecords) is the techno alias of the Dutch house artist Makam. Under this name he makes dark, dubby, wormhole techno that is designed for dance floor meditation, and he exclusively serves it up on his own self titled label. The man behind the music stays in the shadows, and while his output is often heavy and doom laden, it is also alluring mysterious and atmospheric in a way that is never too oppressive.

Today we're treated to a special mix filled with up-to-now unreleased tracks from Talismann's forthcoming, multi-part album 'Percussion'. Part 1 lands today on Bandcamp, however, with more to follow later in summer. Hearing all this material together in a mix, as the artist indeed, is a special treat which makes for a perfectly sequenced trip through empty industrial spaces, thronging warehouses and alien planets. It is hugely rhythmic, compelling techno, but is finished with a subtle sense of sound design that makes it as cerebral as it is physical.
