It is GRAMMYS WEEK here on Talk Direction and Oh My God was it exciting! Harry Styles is the first member of One Direction to attend, perform at, and WIN at the Grammys. There was SO much to discuss:
-Harry wore three different Gucci looks over the course of the night, all topped with colorful boas. Most notably, his performance look was a leather suit, no top, and green boa.
-Harry opened the Grammys with a sultry version of Watermelon Sugar, arranged by singer/songwriter/producer Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange). We are obsessed and NEED Harry to work with Hynes more going forward. 
-Side Note: Sarah Jones, Harry’s drummer, smashed it on the drums in a full leather suit (gloves included) while very much pregnant! 
-Harry’s performance pod included HAIM, Black Pumas, and Billie Eilish, all of whom watched each other perform.
-Harry won Best Pop Solo Performance for Watermelon Sugar and looked completely shocked. First of many to come in our opinions!
-Finally we discuss the #Haylor (Harry & Taylor) and #Hizzo (Harry & Lizzo) moments of the night. Both Taylor and Lizzo looked FABULOUS and their support for Harry was truly lovely.

- Liam, seemingly accidentally, made a heteronormative comment on stage the other night. We talk about it.

- The boys are headlining the Apple Music Festival and the livestream is free! So much good packed in one tiny sentence.

- The #NiallGetASnapchat campaign that’s going on currently in the twittersphere is a worthwhile one to get behind. Imagine the selfies he’d share! One Direction didn’t win Choice Selfie Takers at the TCA’s for nothing. 

- The Sun posted an article about the boys taking a (well-deserved) break next year. We discuss how it’s a bit sad but definitely necessary.

- The Drag Me Down music video was released! Here’s a link to the video if you haven’t seen it yet! We talk about their outfits, the crouch-and-run thing the boys’ seem to love, and how we wish aliens would have been featured. #ROBOTALMIGHTY 

- We do another round of “1D as…” This time we’re thinking up what the boys would be as things found in the kitchen as well as which social media platforms they’d be.

WALLS ALBUM RELEASE - episode 208 - two of us, we made it, kill my mind, heartbreak weather

Golden, golden, golden! This week we break down Harry Styles's song Golden, the album opener of his second album, Fine Line. We talk about the dreamy and sunshiney imagery in the versus and how the tingly music parallels these lyrics. We break down the song’s underlying message about the fear of losing your identity in a relationship and the deep loneliness after a breakup. Harry literally makes you read between the lines to see it: “You’re so golden/I don’t want to be alone/You’re so golden.” We also discuss the possibility that Harry’s words are directed, not to a lover, but to a past or other self who is too scared to live freely and authentically.

Episode 231 - An OT4 Episode - Harry's Sleep Story, Louis leaves Syco, and more!

Well it has been A MINUTE since we recorded! This week we recap the 1D 10 Year Anniversary website! We got new behind the scenes content for some ICONIC 1D music videos and some really interesting insight into the song-writing process of some old 1D classics. We also go through a Ten Things in 10 Years List of the biggest 1D news from each year 1D has been a band! We get very nostalgic, relive the pain of Zayn leaving the band, discuss the hiatus announcement and what we thought it meant back then, and much more!

For our BLM segment, we discuss the Jacob Blake shooting, police brutality, and how to vote by mail in the upcoming presidential election (a vote for 3rd party is a vote for Trump!). We also talk about the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman and his impact on our current political and pop culture.

Episode 243 - New Zayn Album!! Nobody Is Listening

Harry Styles is confirmed to star alongside Emma Corrin in a movie based on My Policeman, a story about a married man who falls in love with another man during the 1950s. The book is told from the wife’s perspective and deals with love, marriage, and the homophobia of the time. We talk about the importance of queer people telling queer stores and dig into the directing/producing history of the team telling this story (big thanks to Stef for this one!). 

We also have fun looking at behind the scenes photos for Don’t Worry Darling, the movie Harry is just wrapping filming for, starring Florence Pugh and directed by Olivia Wilde. Neither of us have read the script yet so we make guesses as to what the blood stains mean on Florence's dress, why Harry’s head has fake blood, where Harry’s tattoos went and how long it took them to cover with makeup, why Harry is wearing a floral apron, and whether or not there is a time jump in the movie based on one picture where their outfits seem to look like something one may see today. 

We also talk about Olivia Wilde’s interview/conversation with director of Promising Young Woman, Emerald Fennell, for Variety. Wilde talks about her approach to directing and the emphasis she puts on creating a comfortable, non-hierarchical, warm environment for all crew and actors on her sets. She seems like a damn good person and an awesome director!
