New mutant offshoot from the Talking Drums crew…

You know how it goes at the after party, over indulge and you end up hogging the conversation. So, in the interest of better dancefloor discourse allow us to present Drum Chums, a new series of edits by percussion pals from across the globe.

This inaugural edition comes from our good buddy Basso, a Hamburg homie whose digging expertise is rivalled only by his scalpel skills and superb silliness. Dipping into the darkest corners of his ever-Growing Bins, Bussi shines up a quartet of rediscovered delights for an edit EP which oozes grooves and off balance moves.

On an uptempo A-side, the German luxuriates in the spectral arps, glistening licks and uplifting chords of fusion boogie winner 'Do Stay For Breakfast' before serving the steamy, sultry and seductive vampire disco jam 'Soft Choppers'. 

Things take a turn for the Balearic on the B-side thanks to the Afro-tropical pop of 'Simple Stroll', all electroid bass, chugging percussion and playful guitar, and finally the cosmic cool of 'Breaking Bread', a spaced out bossa for heads and feet.

Party lovers and party starters grow up. We’re here today, excited as if it was our first time in line for the club, to announce our very first label project. As we believe good vibes go hand in hand with the good sound we made our vision real and loud: our very first release as BS Radio label is coming very soon. Back in 2015, Mancunian DJ and Producer Hidden Spheres aka Tom Harris joined the Rhythm Section family for our twelfth release. Storming into 2022 and approaching 50 releases Tom has a long overdue return to the label with a synthesis of electronic house vibrations.

‘You Are Not Your Body’ is a stellar collection of five tracks, which touch on the sensations of euphoria and the blissed-out intersection between early prog and Detroit House. Channelling energies for meditation and self love, things kick off with ‘Improvisation’ an electro infused eight minute workout, whilst ‘Euan 92’ is a festival-defining ‘hands-in-the-air’ anthem tried and tested by Bradley Zero on the road throughout 2021.

Love Your Body is a delightful disco-esque chugger reinforcing joyful energies and an infectious bass line to keep you wiggling on the dance floor. Things come to a close with a spaced out balearic house remix by RS family favourite Ruf Dug.

Hidden Spheres - You Are Not Your Body EP Preview

I Can't Sleep was originally written back in 2012 while working on tracks for the Won Ton Sunrise LP. It didn't make it onto the album, but in 2020 a new version was recorded with Okinawa Delays and released on Archipelago Records. This dub version of the original 2012 demo is available now from Jansen Jardin (see buy link).

Summer may be over but you can keep the vibes alive with this new package from Hell Yeah. It revisits Max Essa's 'The Great Adventure' and serves it up with a couple of fresh remixes from the man of the moment My Friend Dario and a rare appearance from Balearic Gabba Sound System.

Back in 2020, 'The Great Adventure' was the name of an album that collected together all of Essa's tunes on this label, as well as being a single itself. It is a signature sound from the Balearic boss with tropical drum sounds and organic percussion. Airy drums ride on blissful waves with cosmic synths soundtracking the moment that afternoon turns to evening and the dance floor begins to fill up.

Next comes My Friend Dario, who is at the heart of the Balearic new wave thanks to his fresh takes on Nu Northern Soul and his upcoming album on Hell Yeah. He speeds things up and brings warm house grooves underneath the lush and expansive synths. It's a real bubbler with triumphant leads and plenty of Mediterranean magic.

Finally come the in-house Balearic Gabba Sound System crew to bring their fusion of Italo, acid, downtempo, disco and proto-house. It makes for a track of subtle euphoric intensity, always on the rise, powered by loose drum tumbles, snaking acid lines and awash with a rush of melodic joy.

This is a versatile package that offers plenty of different and equally delicious Balearic perspectives.

The EP’s closer, Hydra, pushes the tempo way down and introduces some smooth guitar licks, courtesy of Riffin’ Rory as well as some lithe flute play. The end result is a sleazy New Jack Swing jam that works as well for warm-up as it does for cooling down.
